Sri Bhagavat Saptah, 4th Day
2nd May, 2015

Maharaj Pariksit asked, “Gurudev, always you tell, Lord Vishnu is equal to all the living entities but we see He killed all the demons and He took the side of the devatas, demigods. So, my doubt has come. How to prove that the Lord is equal to all the living entities ?”

Sukadev Gosvamipad: “Hey! Maharaj Pariksit, listen. Actually, The Lord is equal to all living entities. Samah sarve su bhute su……, I am equal to all living entities. No one is my enemy and no one is My friend. However, the Lord has one nature, sarva dharman, one who takes shelter of His lotus feet He gives protection.”
brahma-bhūtaḥ prasannātmā
na śocati na kāṅkṣati
samaḥ sarveṣu bhūteṣu
mad-bhaktiṁ labhate parām
One who is thus transcendentally situated at once realizes the Supreme Brahman. He never laments nor desires to have anything; he is equally disposed to every living entity. In that state he attains pure devotional service unto Me.
(Srimad Bhagavad-Gita 18.54)

One of the Lord’s name is Saranagata Palak which means He protects the living entities who completely surrender unto His lotus feet. The demigods and demigoddesses always take shelter of the Lord and completely surrender unto the lotus feet of the Lord. For this regard, The Lord protects the demigods and demigoddesses.
Demons are always proud of their own potency, shakti. They do not want to surrender or take shelter under Lord Vishnu. So, Lord Vishnu is always a little bit far from them.

Another thing is diti and aditi. Diti sons are is called the demons, dyaita asura. Aditi sons are called devatas.

Aditi, the mother of demigods has love and affection for Krsna. Therefore, Lord has so much love and affection for the demigods and demigoddesses. The Lord will always give protection to those who have a relationship with Him. Aditi, she is the devotee of Lord Vishnu. Not all demigods are devotees of Vishnu but because of their relationship with their mother, Aditi, Lord has love and affection for the demigods and demigoddesses. If your parents are not doing bhajan but you are doing bhajan then Guru and Vaishanav also love your parents. If you are not doing bhajan but your parents are doing bhajan, Guru and Vaishanav also love you because of your relationship with your parents. Bhakti come and have relationship with Lord then Krsna will be pleased.

Prahlad Maharaj was a devotee. For this regard, the Lord delivered all of his descendants from this material world. This is the evidence. Anyhow, if you are connected with Lord, He will be very pleased and automatically He will take care of your families like how to deliver them as Vaishanavas and Vaishanavis.

At that time, Sukadev Goswamipad told a very nice story about Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakasipu katha. Brahma’s four sons that is called, manasa-putra (mind-born sons), Sanaka, Sanatana, Sanananda and Sanat-kumara. The four kumaras, they learned all the knowledge, jnana vidya from Brahmaji. Then, Brahmaji told his sons to enter grhasta, household life. That means they have to get married. If you do not marry how our dynasty continues?

In this material world, people are asking if you do not get married how will the dynasty continue? Why? They know all will be unhappy. So my sons will be unhappy and they will come to me. For this regard, they say you have to marry. It is because I am suffering this family life and you have to suffer. The nature of material life. Who is happy in this material world ? All they are crying. Shedding tears. However, they are still giving advice to their sons and daughters to get married. Father, you are not happy. Mother, you are happy in family life. Why do you still give me this instruction ? Th reason is because I am unhappy, you also have to be unhappy. This is the nature of the material world.

The four Kumaras are very clever. They asked Brahmaji, “Please tell us which ashram, brahmacari, grhasta, varnaprasta and sanyas is the best?”. Brahmaji honestly replied, “Listen my sons. Sanayasa sirari mamo. Sanyas ashram is the best.” Take renounce order is the best. No anxiousness. Just chant Holy Names and take Mahaprasad. All bramahcari and sannyas are doing this. Chant Holy Names:

Hare Krishna
Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna
Hare Hare
Hare Rama
Hare Rama
Rama Rama
Hare Hare

Everybody give to you everything. Cloth, house, money, everything. Also, very nice delicious Prasad they give. Look! This is true or not. I am staying their house. All also left. All they surrender to us. Take the house with all sorts of things, rice, dhal, roti, everything. No need to go to market. I don’t know but they are staying somewhere but we are very nicely sleeping. It is because we are sannyasi and brahmacari. If I am grhasta like you, go hotel. True or not ? No need attachment. Rolling stone gather no moss. Don’t have to pay utility bills. So many bills for the grhastas every month. Brahmacari and sannyasi are not paying anything. They just visit the householders taking Prasad and chanting Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. Harikatha. Twenty-four hours chant holy Names.

At 3 A.M., I wake up to chant Holy Names. Then mangalarti. Again, chant Holy Names. Prasad followed by Harikatha. Then taking Mahaprasad and rest. Again, chanting Holy Names. Harikatha on Skype. I don’t know what day it is just by doing this. That is because I am always absorb in Krishna katha and Krishna Nama.  Always the mind is absorbed in Krishna Nama and Krishna katha. No need anything.

For grhasta, they are thinking about their job, maybe their boss will terminate their service and lose the job. Money crisis. If I don’t get paid how will I pay so many bills? That is no such thing for sannyasi and brahmacari. Chant Holy Names:

Hare Krishna
Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna
Hare Hare
Hare Rama
Hare Rama
Rama Rama
Hare Hare

Brahmaji:  Listen my sons. Sannyasa sirasi mamo. Sannyas life is the best.

Four Kumaras: Father, then why do you insist that we enter household life?

Then Brahmaji kept quiet. The four Kumaras left the house to take sannyas, renounce order and try to meditate to Brahma. They want to merge into Brahman. Brahman is the effulgence of The Lord. Brahmaji was thinking what are my sons doing? If they merge into Brahman they will never come back. It is a type of mukti that is a heavy punishment. Our Vaishanava Acharya explained, mukti is also one kind of punishment. Na sukham na dukham, there is no realization of happiness or unhappiness. That is their realization staying in there as like one stone. It is like dropping a stone into the water. The stone will sink and remain at the bottom. So, for those who merge into Brahman they are staying in there like a stone. As like a person in coma being kept in a special place, just the heart is working. Other senses are not working. In the same way, the soul merge into Brahman and stay in there. This is the position.

Brahmaji was thinking, “My sons are committing one type of suicide”. Then Brahmaji prayed to Lord Vishnu to protect his sons so they do not merge into Brahman. If your son is brahmacari and sannyasi there is no harm. Give them love and affection. Hey! Lord, protect my son. This is the nature of parental hood, love and affection for their children. If your son or daughter take sannyas, give them love and affection also. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu take sannyas, Sacimata gives so much love and affection to Him.

So, Brahmaji prayed to The Lord not to have his sons merge into Brahman. Lord Vishnu heard the prayers of Brahmaji. By the arrangement of Yogamaya, Lord Vishnu’s Tulasi makaranda, the sweet fragrance of the Tulasi leaves that is offered on the lotus feet of Lord Vishnu entered the nostrils of the four Kumaras. This is very powerful. There and then the four Kumaras give up the meditation of Brahman. They ran to Vaikuntha towards the sweet fragrance of the Tulasi leaves coming from the lotus feet of Lord Vishnu.

The four Kumaras are beautiful brahmacaris of about five years old with so much effulgence emitting from their bodies. They have no beard, no moustache. As like lovely five year olds. Cheeks like rasagullas. They are completely naked.

Finally, the four Kumaras arrived the door of Vaikuntha dham. At the entrance, there were two gatekeepers, Jaya and Vijaya who shouted out to the four Kumaras asking where the four Kumaras were going. The four Kumaras replied that they going to take darshan, audience of Lord Vishnu but were refused entry due to their nudity. To seek audience of Lord Vishnu Who is Bhagavan one has to dress opulently.

However, the four kumaras were not ordinary persons. Jaya and Vijaya chastised and shouted at them. The four Kumaras retorted by calling the gatekeepers demon because whoever refuse anyone having the audience with Lord Vishnu is actually demon.

Four Kumaras: We are going to take darshan of Bhagavan, Lord Vishnu but you prevented us from having audience with our Father, Lord Vishnu. This is your demonic mentality. You will be become demons and go to the material world (the curse on Jaya and Vijaya).

As the four Kumaras were cursing Jaya and Vijaya, The Lord came through the door. Lord Vishnu humbly said to the four Kumaras that my gatekeepers have offended at your lotus feet, this is My offence because they are My servants. The offences of My servants are My offences. When The Lord humbly expressed in this way the four Kumaras became very anxious.

Then Jaya and Vijaya began crying and held on to the lotus feet of Lord Vishnu. Prabhu, whatever happened we have to go to the material world and we have to feel the separation from You. How can we tolerate the separation from You ? Lord Vishnu pacified Jaya and Vijaya by saying, “Don’t worry. Actually, this is My desire that both of you have to go to the material world”. The curse of the four Kumaras were manifested by the agent of My Yogamaya on their tongues.

Vaikuntha means there is no lust or anger, Vigata-kunthat iti Vaikuntha. That is called Vaikuntha. So, how is it possible for the four Kumaras to become angry and cursed the servants of Lord Vishnu, Jaya and Vijaya? All this happened by the agency of Yogamaya.

Lord Vishnu told Jaya and Vijaya, that one day He was thinking of relishing all types of rasas, mellows, santa, dasya, sakhya, vatsalya and madhurya in His different forms of incarnations but He has not completely relished vira rasa, wrestling because He is Bhagavan, Supreme Personality of Godhead. No one is equal to Me. I am atmarama and aptakama, I am self-satisfied and fulfilled all My desires. Everybody is afraid of Me because I am Bhagavan. Who will fight with Me? Who will wrestle with Me? A lion cannot wrestle with a small mouse. A lion can fight with another lion or elephant. Lion cannot fight with the mouse. Elephant can never wrestle with the dog. Dog barks at the passing elephant but the elephant pays not attention to the barking dog. That is because the elephant knows that the dog is no match for it. So, in the same way, Lord is Bhagavan, The Supreme Personality of Godhead. Brahma, Shiva and Narada are offering Him obeisances.

The question arises, who will wrestle with Me ? And one day, I was looking at these Jaya and Vijaya who possess tall, strong and beautiful bodies. Therefore, The Lord thought if one day both gatekeepers may wrestle with Me in the material world. However, they are unable to wrestle Me in Vaikuntha dham because everyone here has awe and reverence for Me. From My thought Yogamaya Who is My maidservant arranged everything. Lord Vishnu then informed Jaya and Vijaya that it is no fault for them or the fault of the four Kumaras. Due to My desire, iccha, Yogamaya arranges everything.

Jaya and Vijaya then asked, “If we go to the material world how can we tolerate the separation from You?” Lord Vishnu’s reply was you need seven births to return from the material world to Vaikuntha with love and affection. And if you take the role of demons like My enemy then after births you shall return. So, what do you prefer?

For Jaya and Vijaya, seven births are too long. They thought the three births option is very difficult but they were determined to tolerate it. As a result, Jaya and Vijaya accepted the demons form as Hirayakasipu and Hiranyaksha.

When Hiranyaksha was born very powerful. Hiranyaksha conquered everywhere. When Hiranyaksha went to the heavenly planet he challenged Indra to fight with him. Indra is very clever and knows that he is unable to defeat Hiranyaksha.  So, Indra humbly replied by acknowledging that Hiranyaksha is very powerful and unable to fight with him, you are like a lion and I am like a small mouse. However, if you really wish then fight with Lord Vishnu Who is your equal match.

Hiranyaksha began to enquire the whereabouts of Lord Vishnu. Indra told, Lord Vishnu is everywhere but you cannot see him. As an example, ghee inside the milk but you cannot directly see the ghee inside the milk. In the same way, Lord Vishnu resides everywhere. Lord Vishnu resides in every atom. The Lord has so much love and affection to His consort, Priti Devi. If you disturb Priti Devi then Lord Vishnu will come out and you can fight with Him. Hiranyaksha thought this is a good idea, I will disturb Priti Devi. Then Hiranyaksha kidnapped the presiding deity of the earth, Priti Devi. Hiranyaksha took Priti Devi underwater in the ocean.

Al the demigods and demigoddesses headed by Lord Brahma prayed to The Lord to protect Priti Devi. The aerial voice told the demigods and demigoddesses not to worry. Soon, Lord Vishnu will solve all your problems.

One day, Lord Brahma was meditating. As Lord Brahma closes his eyes something came out from Lord his nostril like a mustard seed and very quickly manifested into the form of a very big pig, boar. Lord Varaha dived into the ocean using His tusk to rescue Priti Devi out from the water. Hiranyaksha became very angry when this happened and accused Varahadev, a Thief. After saving Priti Devi, Varahadev returned to fight Hiranyaksha.

It is discussed in Srimad Bahagavatam third canto, the killing of demon, Hiranyaksha, Hiranyaksha vadh lila. The Lord is relishing this vira rasa with Hiranyaksha. Finally, Varahadev killed Hiranyaksha.

When Hiranyaksha left his body, his brother, Hiranyakasipu became very angry. Hiranyakasipu took vow to avenge his brother, Hiranyaksha’s death. That means Hiranyakasipu wants to kill Vishnu. How is it possible to kill Vishnu?
Meantime, Hiranyakasipu met Narada Rishi who is the guru of everyone. Narada Rishi is the guru of the demigods and demigoddesses, asuras and everyone. Everyone calls Narada Rishi, Guruji! Guruji Guruji!

Hiranyakasipu enquired from Guruji, Narada Rishi how to kill Vishnu? Narada Rishi replied, “Oh! This is very easy process. Lord Vishnu is amar, immortal. If you become immortal then you can kill Him”.

Vishnu is immortal. So, how can Lord Vishnu be killed? Actually, the demons are not intelligent. So, Hiranyakasipu enquired further. Narada Rishi told Hiranyakasipu to perform austerity to Lord Brahma. Lord Brahma will then give benediction. By the benediction of Brahmaji, you will become immortal. Hiranyakasipu thought this is a good idea to become amar, immortal.

Hiranyakasipu went to a lonely place to perform austerity by chanting, “Om Brahmanaya namah”. Meantime, Lord Vishnu manifested in a form of a girl. Whilst Hiranyakasipu was chanting the mantra, Om Brahmanaya namah, a nearby parrot was chanting, “Vishnu! Vishnu! Vishnu! Vishnu! Vishnu!”. Hiranyakasipu thought Krishna is my enemy why is the parrot chanting Vishnu’s name, probably this is not a good place to perform austerity. So, Hiranyakasipu left that place because the parrot was disturbing when I was chanting my mantra.

On returning home, Hiranykasipu was greeted by his wife, Kayadhu. Kayadhu asked Hiranyakasipu why did he return home early from his austerity? Hiranyakasipu replied that he was disturbed by a parrot over there. I was chanting my mantra and at the same time there was a parrot chanting Vishnu’s name. Being distracted, I sometimes also chanted Vishnu’s name. In this way, Hiranyakasipu was absorb in Krsna Nama, Vishnu! Vishnu! On the same night, Hiranyakasipu met with his wife, Kayadhu and Prahlad Maharaj was conceived. The samskara, impression coming to Prahlad Maharaj when he was still in the womb of his mother, Kayadhu. Prahlad Maharaj is a pure devotee of Lord.

Hiranyakasipu then thought I have to go to another place to perform hard austerity by standing on the tip of his toe while raising one hand and continuously chanted, Om Brahmanaya namah.

Meanwhile, Indra disguised as Hiranyakasipu to kidnap Kayadhu in his chariot towards the heavenly planet. On the way, Narada Rishi met them. Narada Rishi asked Indra why did he kidnap Kayadhu. Indra answered that he wanted to kill Kayadhu and the child in the womb in order to destroy the dynasty of Hiranyakasipu. Then Narada Rishi advised Indra not to take Kayadhu’s life because there is a great vaishanava, mahabhagavata in her womb. If you kill Kayadhu then you lose your position. You will go to the material world and maybe go to hell also. Then, Indra enquired, “Gurudev! What to do now ? I have already kidnapped Kayadhu”. So Narada Rishi said, “Now Kayadhu should stay in my ashram”.

Hence, Kayadhu is staying the ashram of Narada Rishi. Kayadhu was listening to Narada Rishi’s harikatha everyday. Prahlad Maharaj who is in Kayadhu’s womb was also listening harikatha everyday. This is called, janma samskara. When a lady listens to harikatha during her pregnancy period the child will become a devotee. This is true. However, during pregnancy period if one watches television or fighting then child will receive that impression. This problem will come. Whatever the mother is doing the impression transfers to the baby in her womb, garba samskara. Therefore, Prahlad Maharaj who was still in the womb of his mother was listening to harikatha from the lips of Narada Rishi. Prahlad Maharaj himself confirmed this.

For many years, Hiranyakasipu performed hard austerities to Brahmaji. Then Brahmaji asked Hiranyakasipu, “What do you want?” “I want to become immortal”, replied Hiranyakasipu. Brahmaji informed Hiranyakasipu this is impossible, whoever takes birth in this material world must die, nr-deham adyam su-labham su-durlabham (SB 11.20.17). This is the nature of the material. Only crazy people thinks he will not die. Everybody will have to die one. It could today, tomorrow or in a hundred years. Our ancestors have died. We too will die one day.

So, Brahmaji told Hiranyakasipu to request for another benediction as Brahmaji cannot give amar, immortality. The Hiranyakasipu requested that he will not die in the daytime or nighttime, not in any month or year, not in the sky or ground or water, will not be killed by any weapons, inside or outside, etc. Whatever Hiranyakasipu requested Brahmaji granted. Hiranyakasipu became very happy and laughing out aloud by proclaiming to be immortal and telling Brahmaji that he is foolish. The demon thought if I cannot die any day or month then I am Bhagavan. Aham brahmasmi. Everybody follows my instructions. I am Bhagavan. Hiranyakasipu instructed his soldiers to go to every towns and villages to burned all the Vishnu temples, kill the sadhus, brahmanas, cows and destroyed all the trees that were giving nice fruits. Thus, only worship Hiranyakasipu. Hiranyakasipu also further instructed his soldier that anyone who does not glorify him to have their heads chopped off. I will take revenge for my brother, Hiranyaksha. I will kill Lord Vishnu.

Kayadhu gave birth to Prahlad Maharaj who has learned all veda, Upanishad, purana and everything from Narada Rishi whilst in the womb of his mother. Then Prahlad Maharaj returned Hiranyakasipu’s residence. Prahlad is a very nice beautiful boy. His name is Prahladananda. Ananda means bliss. The embodiment of bliss. One who chants the Holy Names and doing bhajana and sadhana he is always happy. Those who does not chant Holy Names and doing bhajana sadhana the mind is always disturbed. If one chants Holy Names, always will be happy. Chant Holy Names and be happy.

Bolo Vrindavan lal ki jaya! Jaya jaya Sri Radhe!
You have to give jaya. Jaya means all victory.
Glorifying Gurudev. Jaya Gurudev! Jaya Prabhupad!

Prahlad Maharaj is very happy and a very beautiful and attractive brahmacari. Prahladananda, ananda, he is the embodiment of bliss. Hiranyakasipu embraced his son, Prahlad Mahraj without any hesitation.

Hiranyakasipu wants his son to learn politics, duplicity, diplomacy and hypocrisy because Prahlad is very intelligent as indicated by on his forehead. All signs are shown on the forehead as stated in Shastra, forehead is as like a signboard. We cannot see our own signboard but others can see. Meaning, you cannot see your own forehead but others are able to see your forehead. So, Hiranyakasipu see the beautiful forehead of Prahlad with wonderful tell-tale sign.

Hiranyakasipu enrolled Prahlad Maharaj in the school of Sukracarya. However, Sukracarya was not there at that time. Devatas, demigods guru is Brhaspati. Demons guru is Sukracarya. In the absence of Sukracarya, Prahlad Maharaj was tutored by his disciples who are also his sons, Sanda and Amarka as instructed by Hiranyakasipu. Also, they were specifically instructed by Hiranyakasipu to teach politics, duplicity, diplomacy and hypocrisy to Prahlad. Hiranyakasipu prohibits them to chant Vishnu Nama. In actual fact, Hiranyakasipu is chanting Vishnu Name every second as he is very disturbed and thinking about Vishnu always as to seek revenge for his brother.

A few months later, Prahlad Maharaj returned and Hiranyakasipu enquired from the former, what has he learned from his gurus in the ashram. Prahlad Maharaj replied:
tat sadhu manye 'sura-varya dehinam
sada samudvigna-dhiyam asad-grahat
hitvatma-patam grham andha-kupam
vanam gato yad dharim asrayeta
O best of the asuras, King of the demons, as far as I have learned from my spiritual masters, any person who has accepted a temporary body and temporary household life is certainly embarrassed by anxiety because of having fallen in a dark well where there is no water but only suffering. One should give up this position and go to the forest (vana). More clearly, one should go to Vrindavan, where only Krishna consciousness is prevalent and should thus take shelter of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
(Srimad Bhagavatam 7.5.5)

This household life is as like the dark well. So, I want to go to Vrindavan to associate with sadhu to listen harikatha of Lord Vishnu.

Prahlad Maharaj provoked his father, tat sadhu manye 'sura-varya dehinam, you are the best amongst demons. Hiranyakasipu was delighted to be called as the best of demons. Asura varya means the best of the demons.

When Prahlad Maharaj uttered, “Hari! Vishnu!”. Hiranyakasipu became very angry. Why Vishnu? I am Bhagavan. Take the name of Hiranyakasipu. Hiranyakasipu is Bhagavan, Vishnu is not Bhagavan. Only take my name. I am Bhagavan. Aham brahmasmi. Demonic way. As Hiranyakasipu became very angry he threw Prahlad Maharaj away. Hey! You stupid nonsense, taking the name of my enemy, Vishnu. Prahlad only said, “Vishnu”, once but Hiranyakasipu mentioned, Vishnu, ten times. Demons also chanting Lord’s Name (Gurudev laughing).

Hiranyakasipu was pacified by others saying that your son is very small and does not know anything. They told Hiranyakasipu due to bad association as Prahlad Maharaj used to live with Narada Rishi whilst in his mother’s womb and just returned. For this regard, your son is chanting Vishnu. Now, good association here with Sanda and Amarka. So, re-enrolled Prahlad Maharaj in the school of Sanda and Amarka. Hiranyakasipu agreed and sent Prahlad Maharaj to Sanda and Amarka’s ashram.

After some time, Prahlad returned home. And again, Hiranyakasipu enquired from his son as before. Then Prahlad Maharaj replied very humbly, “My father, please listen”:
sri-prahlada uvaca
sravanam kirtanam visnoh
smaranam pada-sevanam
arcanam vandanam dasyam
sakhyam atma-nivedanam
iti pumsarpita visnau
bhaktis cen nava-laksana
kriyeta bhagavaty addha
tan manye 'dhitam uttamam
["Hearing and chanting about the transcendental holy name, form, qualities, paraphernalia and pastimes of Lord Visnu, remembering them, serving the lotus feet of the Lord, offering the Lord respectful worship with sixteen types of paraphernalia, offering prayers to the Lord, becoming His servant, considering the Lord one's best friend, and surrendering everything unto Him (in other words, serving Him with the body, mind and words) – these nine processes are accepted as pure devotional service. One who has dedicated his life to the service of Krsna through these nine methods should be understood to be the most learned person, for he has acquired complete knowledge."]
(Srimad-Bhagavatam, 7.5.23-24)

Adhitam uttamam means listen harikatha, Vishnu katha. Glorify Vishu by the nine process of bhakti, smaranam, kirtanam, Vishnu smaranam and everything. This is the best lesson I have learnt from my guru.

Hiranyakasipu became very angry and ordered for his son to be killed in many ways such as being hurled from the top of the mountain, trampled by the elephants, placed in the hole of snakes, cobras, et cetera. Prahlad was very calm and fixated his mind of Lord Vishnu all the time.

If Lord Vishnu protects you nobody can kill you, mare Krishna rakhe ke rakhe Krishna mare ke as Swami Maharaj said. If The Lord wants to kill you, no one can protect you. That means Lord is your protector and maintainer.
Anukulyasya sankalpah pratikulyasya varjanam raksisyatiti visvaso
goptrtve varanam tatha atma-niksepa-karpanye sad-vidha saranagatih
The six divisions of surrender are the acceptance of those things favourable to devotional service, the rejection of unfavourable things, the conviction that Krishna will give protection, the acceptance of the Lord as one’s guardian or master, full self-surrender and humility.
Caitanya-caritamrta 22.100

This is the six limbs of complete surrender. Then Hiranyakasipu was thinking what should be done now. Others advised Hiranyakasipu to put Prahlad Maharaj in the school of Sanda and Amarka again. Hiranyakasipu reflected and realised that his son is still small. Prahlad Maharaj was then sent to school again.

So, Prahlad Maharaj staying with his classmates, glorifying Vishnu every single day. Srimad Bhagavatam states only one kind of person who does not want to listen to Krishna katha, that is the butcher. A butcher’s heart is very hard and does not wish to listen to Harikatha. Everybody wants to listen to Krishna katha and Srimad Bhagavatam.

Glorification of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is performed in the parampara system; that is, it is conveyed from spiritual master to disciple. Such glorification is relished by those no longer interested in the false, temporary glorification of this cosmic manifestation. Description of the Lord are the right medicine for the conditioned soul undergoing repeated birth and death. Therefore, who will cease hearing such glorification of the Lord except a butcher or who is killing his own self.
Srimad Bhagavatam 10.1.4

For those who wants to merge into Brahma they will not listen to Krishna katha even it is given to them. Those who is suffering in the three folds of maya even Vishnu katha will be forgotten. The three fold of miseries, maya, adi-atmika, adi-bhautika, and adi-daivika.

nirvrtta-tarsair upagiyamanad bhavausadhac chrotra-mano-bhiramat. One who listens to Harikatha absorb and completely submerged in Divine love of Lord.

Prahlad Maharaj glorified the sweet Krishna’s pastimes, very nice teachings are there. His classmates enquired from him, how did you obtained this knowledge when our teachers have not taught us this. Hiranyakasipu also asked Prahlad Maharaj whether did Sanda and Amarka taught him about the worshipping of Lord Vishnu.

Then Prahlad Maharaj became desperate and very boldly replied, “How can these nonsensical gurus give Krishna katha when they don’t even have knowledge of Krishna katha?” These stupid nonsense gurus have no knowledge about Krishna.
na te viduh svartha-gatim hi visnum
durasaya ye bahir-arth-maninah
andha yathandhair upaniyamanas

Persons who are strongly entrapped by the consciousness of enjoying material life, and who have therefore accepted as their leader or guru a similar blind man attached to external sense objects, cannot understand that the goal of life is to return home, back to Godhead, and engage in the service of Lord Vishnu. As blind men guided by another blind man miss the right path and fall into a ditch, materially attached men led by another materially attached man are bound by the ropes of fruitive labour, which are made of very strong cords, and they continue again and again in materialistic life, suffering the three fold miseries.
Srimad Bhagavatam 7.5.31

A blind man leads other blind men will fall into a ditch. A blind man cannot lead other blind men. So, how will these stupid nonsense gurus, Sanda and Amarka are able to give harikatha ?
sri-prahlada uvaca

Prahlada Maharaj replied, “Because of their uncontrolled senses, persons too addicted to materialistic life make progress toward hellish conditions and repeatedly chew that which has already been chewed. Their inclinations towards Krishna are never aroused, either by the instructions of others, by their own efforts, or by a combination of both.”
Srimad Bhagavatam 7.5.30

Stupid nonsense things. They have no knowledge of what is good or bad? matir na krsne parata svato va mitho bhipadyeta grha-vratanam adanta-gobhir. Adanta-gobhir means what? They never control their senses. So, how possible give Harikatha?

Who will become devotee first? Tell to me? Bhaktivedanta Prabhupad’s (Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupad / Swami Maharaj) first sloka of Upadesamrta (Nectar of Instuction), if you want to do Krsna bhajan you have to first control the six urges of your senses.

A sober person who can tolerate the urge to speak, the mind’s demands, the actions of anger and the urges of the tongue, belly and genitals is qualified to make disciples all over the world.
Upadesamrta, Sloka 1

First sloka, Bhaktiveddanta Prabhupad wrote, first you control the urges of your speech. Not speaking chatting blah! blah! blah! Chant Holy Names, Hare Krishna. That means control your speech, vaco vegam. This is the example of Mahabharata, Draupadi and Sita Devi. This the reason how Mahabharata happened because of their chattering and pattering. Big Mahabharata and Ramayana coming. Fight come. Always try to speak less that is good. Less speak is best. Speak only when necessary. This is vaco vegam.

Manasah vegam, control the mind. Jihva vegam, control the urges of the tongue. Krodha vegam, control the urges of the anger. One devotee asked me. Gurudev, I am very angry. So, how to control my anger ? Two very easy process. Anger is like fire, agni. Fire burns everything turning into ashes. When you are angry breaking everything, TV, phone, and chucking everything. However, who does those things belong to ? Your property. You are angry with your wife, husband and children then throw things. Actually, you destroy your own things. As like fire destroys everything transferring into ashes. When anger comes, two things remember. First, when you are very angry drink water. If you put water into the fire it extinguishes. One hundred anger will extinguish. Fire will go away. This is psychological effect. Second, chant loudly Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. Fire automatically will be extinguished. Control the urges of the fire. Vaco vegam manasah krodha-vegam jihva-vegam udaropastha-vegam. Udaropastha-vegam, control the urges of the stomach. When you come in the realm of bhakti you have to control the urges of the senses. Then you can become devotee.

So, Prahalad Maharaj said these are stupid nonsense gurus, kan-gurus. They cannot control their six urges so how is it possible for them to become guru? How is it possible for them to give instructions to me for Krishna bhakti?

Now Prahlad Maharaj began to give very nice instructions to his classmates. Prahlad Maharaj told in the early days when you do bhajan and sadhan then your life will be successful.
sri-prahlada uvaca
kaumara acaret prajno
dharmam bhagavatam iha
durlabham manusam janma
tad apy adhruvam arthadam
Prahlada Maharaj said: One who is sufficiently intelligent should use the human form of body from the very beginning of life – in other words, from the tender age of childhood – to practice the activities of devotional service, giving up all other engagements. The human body is most rarely achieved, and although temporary like other bodies, it is meaningful because in human life one can perform devotional service. Even a slight amount of sincere devotional service can give one complete perfection.
Srimad Bhagavatam 7.6.1

Very nice sloka. Human life is very rare and not very easy to get this human body. Try to understand, durlabham manusam janma, this human body is very very rare after 8.4 million species then The Lord gives us this human body as stated in shastra. Why does The Lord gives us this human body? Only this human body we can do bhajan sadhana. Other bodies cannot. All of us are human being, manusya. For this regard, you have come to listen Harikatha. Cats, dogs and cows, they cannot listen to Harikatha. By listening to Harikatha then only you will be able to be delivered from this material world. Human beings can chant Holy Names but not animals.

So from early age, one must do bhajan and sadhana to Lord and give up all types of endeavours …… Mukunda caranam bhajam, always absorb your mind on the lotus feet of Lord Mukunda, Krishna. All of his classmates asked Prahlad, we are all staying and learning in the same school but our gurus never taught us this type of katha. How did you learn this thing ? Who told you ? Prahlad replied that he actually learned from his guru, Narada Rishi when he was in the womb of his mother. Then all of his classmates became very happy. All of them chanted Holy Names, Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.

Then Sanda and Amarka came in front of Hiranyakasipu, “Hey! Bhagavan Hiranyakasipu, before in our school only one Prahlad. Now there are many Prahlads.” Before, there was only one devotee but now everybody is devotee. And everybody chanting Lord’s Holy Names. Then Hiranyakasipu became very angry. Hiranyakasipu then called, “Prahlad come here!”.

Hiranyakasipu: Prahlad, you are always saying Vishnu! Vishnu! Where is your Vishnu?

Prahlad: Father, my Vishnu resides everywhere.

Hiranyakasipu: Is He here ? Are you looking at Him?

Prahlad: Yes, father. I am looking at Him. (Whoever is mahabhagavata, he sees his istadev everywhere, said Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Prabhupad.)

Hiranyakasipu: How come you can see Vishnu but not me?

Prahlad: Father, you don’t have the vision.

We have two type of visions. Prema chaksha and karma chaksha, vision of divine love and vision of lust. Prahlad boldly told his father, your eyes are completely covered by the vision of lust. That is why you cannot see Vishnu. Hiranyakasipu became angrier.

Hiranyakasipu: Where is your Vishnu? I will kill Him.

Prahlad: Father, He is everywhere.

Hiranyakasipu asked, “In this pillar?”

“Yes, He is everywhere”, Prahlad humbly replied.

The Lord always take the vow of His devotee.  Prahlad Maharaj said, “Yes, in this pillar”. The Hiranyakasipu smashed the pillar with a club. Then the aerial sound coming and the pillar started to crack. The place started to tremble. Hiranyakasipu’s head also started to spin. That place was like an earthquake.

Lord Nrshimhadev appeared as like half man (upper part of the body) and half lion (lower part of the body) . Nara means human being. Simha means lion. The roaring sound of lion (Gurudev roars like a lion. Everybody laughing). Hiranyakasipu thought it is a lion. Lord Nrshimhadev and Hiranyakasipu started fighting for a few hours. The Lord relishing vira rasa, wrestling.

Nrshimhadev cut Hiranyakasipu’s leg and placed Hiranyakasipu on His lap and tried to rip Hiranyakasipu’s stomach with His nails. Fierce roaring sound can be heard. Hiranyakasipu begged for mercy, saying no, you cannot kill me. I have the benediction of immortality from Lord Brahma. So, You cannot kill me. Lord Vishnu replied, “No! No! Lord Brahma did not give immortality”.
Hiranyakasipu: Why not ? I cannot die on the land or water or sky.
Nrshimhadev: Neither are not on the earth or water or sky. You are on My lap.

Hiranyakasipu: I cannot die on any day or year.

Nrshinhadev: This is leap year. Today is the leap day.

Hiranyakasipu: I will not die in the day or night.

Nrshmhadev: Now is neither day or night. It is twilight.

Hiranyakasipu: I cannot be killed by any human being that is created by Brahma.

Nrshimhadev: I am not created by Brahma. I am Bhagavan, Vishnu.

Hiranyakasipu: Still You cannot kill me because I cannot kill by any weapon or any knife.

Nrshimhadev: I will kill with My nails.

Nrshimhadev ripped Hiranyakasipu’s chest with His fingernails. In this way, Hiranyakasipu left his body.

Then Nrshimhadev became very ferocious and roared so much looking at everyone. After a lion kills an elephant the lion will become very angry. In the same way, Lord Nrshimhadev became very angry looking here and there, roaring loudly.

All the demigods and demigoddesses became afraid, paying obeisances and offering stava stuti very quickly. They then told Laskshimi Devi, “Your Husband is very angry. Please go pacify Him now”. However, Lakshimi Devi informed them that this time, she is unable to go in front of Her Husband because now He is very angry.
ugram viram maha-vishnum
jvalantam sarvato mukham
nrisimham bhaishanam bhadram
mrityur mrityum namamy aham
May my head be protected by the moon coloured One, Who is the greatest among humans. My obeisances unto the ferocious and powerful, the great Vishnu, the fiery One, Who’s faces are on all sides, the feaurful One, Nrshimha, who causes the death even death personified, (or who can overcome death).
(Nrshimhadev Kavaca Bica mantra)

Then Lord Nrshimhadev angrily looked towards the direction Brahmaji. Hey! Brahma. Brahmaji’s body shaking. Lord Nrshimhadev asked Brahma, “Why do you give this type of benediction? You should be ashamed”. For this regard, Hiranyakasipu disturbed everybody and My devotees. Again, Brahmaji in a trembling state offered stava stuti. Shivaji and all demigods and demigoddesses also ran away. Prahlad was then coaxed to pacify his Lord.

Prahlad Maharaj came very close Nrshimhadev. Nrshimhadev became very happy and picked up Prahlad and placed Prahlad on His lap patting Prahlad’s head as like father and son. Prahhlad Maharaj offered Him garland. Actually, there is no garland there but the garland was offered by mind. Prior to that Lord Nrshimhadev was very angry. Now, Prahlad is next to Him, tears rolled down on His cheeks and His heart also melted. Lion can be very angry to others but love and affection to his cubs.

Lord Nrshimhadev told Prahlad, your father has given you so much disturbance and I have came a bit late. Ask for any benediction, I will give it to you. “I do not do bhajan and sadhan for any benediction because I am not a businessman. Prabhu, don’t ask me to request for any benediction”, replied Prahlad Maharaj.  However, Lord Nrshimhadev repeatedly told Prahlad to ask for any benediction. Finally, Prahlad requested for Lord Nrshimhadev to forgive and deliver his father even though he has disturbed everyone and the devotees. Nrshimhadev asked, “Prahlad, why you did not ask for any benediction?”

According to Lord Nrshimhadev, one who performs bhajan and sadhan, following the four principles and received diskha mantra from Gurudev is a neophyte devotee, kanishta adhikari. Seven generations from both paternal and maternal sides will automatically be delivered. All of you are vaishanavas because you received diksha mantra from Gurudev. You must have full faith. It is guaranteed seven generations of your father and mother sides will be delivered from this material world. The condition is that you follow the four regulative principles, chant the mantras given by Gurudev and never criticise Vaishanvas. Then, you are in the level of kanishta adhikari and also a vaishanava.

Madhyam adhikari are the ones who have Shastra knowledge and the ability to discriminate.
isvare tad-adhinesu
balisesu dvisatsu ca
yah karoti sa madhyamah
An intermediate, second class devotee shows love for the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is friendly to all devotees and is very merciful to neophytes and ignorant people. The intermediate devotee neglects those who are envious of devotional service.
Srimad Bhagavatam 11.2.45

If one is intermediate devotee, fourteen generations from either sides of the parents will be delivered from this material world.

For those who is utama utama mahabhagavat, twenty-one generations from either sides of the parents will be delivered from this material world automatically.

So, Lord Nrshimhadev said, “Prahlad, you are utama mahabhagavat. Your father, Hiranyakasipu will be automatically delivered from this material world. Asked for another benediction”.
For this regards, I always request to all of you to chant Holy Names and follow the four regulative principles. The result is one hundred guaranteed as in the conversation between Prahlad Maharaj and Lord Nrshimhadev. You will be delivered and especially from both sides of your parents.

If one just chants the Holy Names, two rounds in the morning and two rounds in the evening that makes four rounds per day, following the four regulative principles and honour Maha Prasad. You are very fortunate.

Yesam grhan. According to Shastra, if there is a vaishanava in the family, all the demigods and demigoddesses are dancing. Prithivi Devi is happy. Everybody is very happy. In the heavenly planets, all the demigods and demigoddesses will be very happy. All your forefathers will also be very happy. There is so much benefit if there is a vaishanava in the family which is indescribable. However, if you criticize Vaishanava, all will be lost. All will go to hell including you as well. So, if you criticize vaishanava you will be completely cursed. All inauspiciousness headed your direction. Be very careful. Never criticize any vaishanavas.

Chant Holy Names:

Hare Krishna
Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna
Hare Hare
Hare Rama
Hare Rama
Rama Rama
Hare Hare

Yet Prahlad Maharaj told Lord Nrshimhadev that he does not want any benedictions. Nrshimhadev insisted that Prahlad Maharaj ask for a benediction.

(Sloka….) One who performs bhajan and sadhan for his own liberation, mukti is a selfish person. Those who performs bhajan and also help others are the best devotees of the Lord. Therefore, Prahlad requested a benediction from Lord Nrshimhadev to enable him to preach His holy name all over the whole world and everybody will be delivered from this material world, there is no harm for me to go into hell for my sinful activities but You deliver all the living entities from this material world. Lord Nrshimhadev promised Prabhlad Maharaj, “One who listens to the narrations of Prahlad and Nrshimhadev katha and those who glorifies the Holy Names will attain My abode, Vaikuntha dham”. That means one must perform bhajan, help others and preach to everyone, Oh! My brother, sister, mother, father and everybody chants the Holy Names:
Hare Krishna
Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna
Hare Hare
Hare Rama
Hare Rama
Rama Rama
Hare Hare

Nishmiha Jaya Jaya Prahlad Jaya Jaya (singing)

Gaura Premanande!
