"Try to understand: Krsna is the Supreme Personality of God, Svayam Bhagavan, and He has three aspects: Brahman, effulgence from His body; Paramatma, super soul, who resides in the heart of all the living entities; and the third is called Bhagavan, who has six opulences.
aisvarasya samagrasya viryasya yasasah sriyah
jnana-vairagyayos caiva
sannam bhaga itingana
"The Supreme Personality who possesses all aiswarya or riches, all virya or strength, all yasa or fame, all sri or beauty, all jnana or knowledge and all vairagya or renunciation is called Bhagavan."
(Visnu Purana 6.5.47)

That who has six opulences, aisvarya, first is opulence, that’s why He is called Bhagavan. The second qualification is virya, He’s very powerful, He controls everybody. Brahma, Siva, Narada, all the high class exalted devotees also pay obeisance unto His lotus feet. The third, sri, His form is very beautiful, that’s called ever fresh beautiful form.

Conditioned soul cannot become Bhagavan. Conditioned soul means that they never become ever fresh and beautiful form. If you are 17 years old and you take one picture of yourself and if you invert the number to 71 years old and take another picture, you cannot recognize yourself, your body will be completely changed. But Bhagavan has always an ever fresh and beautiful form, nava yauvanin ca.

Jnana means that He is vast of knowledge, all knowledge comes from Him. Even the material knowledge, transcendental knowledge, everything comes from Him. And also He has name and fame through all over the universe.

And vairagya, He’s is completely detached of all things. So, that means that who is Bhagavam has these six opulences, aisvarya. So now, going to the subject, Krsna is Bhagavan, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Before, I told that Krsna was running in the high road because He committed offense, aparadha. He, who is Bhagavan, now is committing offense. So, for this regard, He’s afraid and running in the high road. How old is He? Only two and a half years old.

He committed two offenses: He broke (her mother´s) butter pot and also wasted the butter. He realized Himself: I am an offender, aparadhi.

In your life, if you commit any offense, you can realize: “Oh, this is a sinful activity, this is a pious one”. And if you do any sinful activity automatically Lord, who resides in your heart, will say: “Don’t do this! Don’t do this!”.

There is a sanskrit word, antaratma, meaning “from inner core of your heart” He is saying: “Don’t do this! Don’t do this!”, but you are doing...

In the same way, He who is Bhagavan now is doing His human being lila, nara lila. So, He realized “Oh, I’m an offender, aparadhi”, so He is also running in the high road.

A thief realizes “I am an offender”. When a thief looks at the police, he becomes afraid running here and there, hiding himself. The police does not know here who is thief but a psychological effect comes and when the police comes here then one offender will be looking “oh, the policemen!” and the police automatically realizes. This is a psychological effect. If you committed offense you will always fear the police.

So now Krsna who is Bhagavan realizes Himself “I am an offender, I committed offense”, and now He’s afraid and running in the high road. Then Mother Yasoda chase behind Him.

No one can catch Krsna, He is Bhagavan. But Mother Yasoda ran faster than Him and caught His back.

Brahman jnanis, impersonalists, karmis and yogis perform high austerities trying to meditate in Him but it is not possible. And Mother Yasoda very easily caught Krsna.

As like Brahma, the highest yogi, Sivaji, also the highest yogi, with their heart completely neat and clean, without any material desires. But in their hearts, Krsna sometimes manifests His lotus feet and sometimes not.

(krsna) deva! bhavantam vande
man-manasa-madhukaram arpaya nija-pada-pankaja-makarande

yadyapi samadhisu vidhir api pasyati na tava nakhagra-maricim
idam icchami nisamya tavacyuta! tad api krpadbhuta-vicim

(Meaning: Oh, Lord Sri Krsna! I am offering a prayer unto You. Please let the bee of my mind be offered the nectarian honey of Your lotus feet.
Oh Madhava! Although I don't possess even a sesame seed of bhakti for You, still, by Your inconceivable power which makes the impossible possible, please fulfill the desires of my heart)

Rupa Gosvamipad composed this verse “krsna deva bhavantam vande” in which He says that Brahma, Siva, Narad, they are high class exalted devotees but they can’t manifest Krsna’s lotus feet in their pure hearts. Kalyavan and Jarasandh have also tried to catch Krsna.

There is also a story explained in the Srimad Bhagavatan, Kalyavan wants to catch Krsna but it is not possible. Those who are non-devotees cannot catch Krsna. Even Brahma, Siva, Narad, who are absolute devotees, pure devotees, even to them it is impossible to manifest Krsna in their heart every time.

And now Mother Yasoda caught Krsna’s back. How is it possible? Maybe this question comes. This is called inconceivable, acintya, beyond our material conception. Many yogis are doing bhajan and sadhan, doing many hard austerities but it’s not possible to take darsan of Krsna also. And now Mother Yasoda directly caught Krsna’s back.

Always remember who is Krsna, He is Bhagavan, The Supreme Personality of Godhead.

(verse)

Everybody is afraid of death. Even the personality who presides death is afraid of Him. And now the same Krsna is afraid of Mother Yasoda.

All of us are afraid of death. Who wants to die? Raise your hand! Only a crazy person would say: “Maharaj, I want to die”. Do you want to die? But if one snake comes into here, a “cascavel” (rattlesnake in Portuguese and the name of a city in Brazil where Srila Gurudev used to visit), then all of you will be afraid, “oh my God”. Is it true or not? No one wants do die. We are always afraid of death. But what’s the absolutely truth? DEATH! WE WILL DIE! Today, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, after a hundred of years. This is guaranteed. This is a guarantee card that you have. What’s the guarantee card? Death! But you don’t know when, in which date. And you don’t want to listen this. You say: “Maharaj, not these words. Maharaj, give me blessings to have a long life”. But everything is predestined. There are no guarantees when we will die.

Our life is like water bubbles. Anytime we will burst, and we are finished. In a heart attack, before you go to the hospital. Who knows what time death will come. Even the presiding deity of death, Yama Maharaj also is afraid of Krnsa. And now the same Krsna is afraid of Mother Yasoda.

Then Krsna turns His face towards Mother Yasoda and says “Mayi (mother), don’t beat me”, and starts to cry. Babies are very clever, (they think) “If I cry, then my mother will not beat me”. This is the nature of the babies, they know “It’s my fault but if I cry my mother’s heart will melt and she will not beat me”. So Krsna is crying, shedding tears.

His eyes were fearful and His breathing quick, and as Mother Yasoda bound His belly with ropes, He shivered in fright and His pearl necklace shook. (Sri Damodarastakam 2)

A nice and beautiful picture comes. How beautiful is Krsna, Gopal.

In this material world, when we put different kinds of ornaments, our face becomes very nice, beautiful and attractive. Just like I told you, when you attain to any relative marriage ceremony, at that time you wear a very nice dress. For 2 or 3 months before you prepare how to dress, make an appointment in a beauty shop. But if now, in this moment, any of your friends call you to invite you to his marriage ceremony, will you go? No! (Joking) Because no one can look at you: “Oh, she’s coming, Putana, no!” Because you are not prepared. You have to receive the invitation to your friend’s marriage ceremony at least 3 months before it. Otherwise you are not going. Now, wearing this dress will you go to any marriage ceremony? “Who’s is coming in this dress? Maybe they are friends of Putana”. (Joking and laughing) No one will talk to you!

But Bhagavan, Lord, with ornaments or not, He is always beautiful. This is called Bhagavan. Bhagavan’s beauty is effulgent, beautiful and attractive, even without alankar, ornaments.

Now, Krsna is very nice and beautiful, using so many kajal and He is rubbing His eyes and His eyes are now completely black.

There are so many tears running down from His eyes like the streams of the waters of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers. Mother Yasoda says: “I will beat you!” and He says: “Mother, don’t beat me!”. She said: “Why did you break the butter pot?” At that time Krsna said: “Mother, I did not break the butter pot”.

Who is Bhagavan? He always speaks the truth. Truth is Bhagavan, Bhagavan is the truth. Truth is God, God is truth. This is the philosophy.

(Verse)

Every truth comes from Krsna. And now Krsna says: “I did not break the butter pot…” He tells a lie. And Mother Yasoda tells: “Who broke this butter pot?” Then Krsna says: “Mother, when you went to protect the milk, at that time your ankle bells stroke the butter pot and the butter pot broke, so… you broke it!”

Then she told: “You are a thief! I will give you heavy punishment!” Then Krsna told: “My mother, listen, in my dynasty there are no thief but in your dynasty there is one thief!”. That means that in Mother Yasoda’s dynasty there was one person called cora gopa, cora means thief. Then she thought: “Oh, naughty boy!!” And said: “Why did you waste all the butter and spread it all? Why?” And Krsna told: “Mother, I did not waste anything. That who creates, He destroys”.

Actually, everything that Krsna speaks is the truth. But in the opposite way, for those who has the vatsalya mood, it looks like a lie. This is the philosophy. Krsna is the supreme creator and the supreme destroyer and He nourishes everybody. Who is the supreme creator? Everything is created by the Lord.

(Verse)

So, now coming in this way, Mother Yasoda told: “Ok, I will give a punishment to You”. Krsna now is crying and sending tears. And she thought: “I have to bind Him”. Because Mother Yasoda thinks: “If I don’t bind my son maybe He will go to somewhere and again He may not come back, so I have to bind Him. And another reason is that I have to punish my son, otherwise He will become a thief”. So, for this regard, she decided to bind her son.

So, first She tried to bind Krsna with the rope of binding the braids. I think nowadays ladies use plastic elastic things to bind the hair but at that ancient time, village girls used small ropes to do it.

Mother Yasoda though that with her binding rope she could bind Krsna in the grinding mortar because He is naughty and the grinding mortar is cunning.

Baby Krsna’s waist is very small so Mother Yasoda thought: “I can bind Krsna in this grinding mortar with my braid’s rope”. But when the binding were happening, there were shortage of two fingers. Then Mother Yasoda told to her friends: “Oh, bring another rope!”. And she tied the ropes and again tried to bind and again also a shortage of two fingers, not three fingers. So in this way, every time she tried to bind Krsna, how many of shortage? Two fingers.

Then all her friends laugh and said: “Mother Yasoda cannot bind your son!” Then Mother Yasoda with a great enthusiasm said: “I have to bind to Him. I gave birth to Him, for sure I can bind him! Why not?”

This history gives us a teaching: we always should be utsaha, enthusiastic. Bhakti is two things: the negatives, that you have to reject, and the positives, that you have to accept.

(verse)

This means that bhakti is always enthusiastic.

Then Mother Yasoda was too much enthusiastic: “I have to bind Him!” but in every time, there was two fingers shortage. From morning to midday she tried to bind Krsna and so much perspiration came, dropping from her body.

In bhakti we have always to feel these: “In this life I have to perform bhajan and sadhan”. Do or die!

My mantra preaching is “Never give up guru and never give up harinam!”. In any circumstances you should not give up guru and should not give up harinam!
harer nama harer nama harer namaiva kevalam
kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasty eva gatir anyatha
In this Kali Yug chant the holy name:

In this philosophy, in this material world you have a nice wife, nice car, bank balance, husband…, accordingly to your karma, fruit of action.

Because everything is predestinated according to your karma. If today will you take prasad or not… Everything is also written, predestinated. You think: “No, I will take prasad!” but if it is not written in your fade you cannot take it. Some circumstance appears and you cannot eat it.

Sometimes you realize it in your own household life. I have no experience in your western life but I see it in India. The husband sits to take prasad and the wife offers the prasad plate.

I don´t know if the western wife offers prasad to her husband or not. The western culture is the “self-service”! You can take prasad by yourself in your own plate but the Indian culture is different. The Indian wife must prepare her husband´s prasad plate and do not eat before her husband also. Because they are thinking the husband are like Pati dev, Bhagavan (the Supreme Lord). In western countries the husband thinks the wife is also Bhagavan, so, there is no need to anyone to serve the other.

But in the Vedic culture the wife prepares a very nice and beautiful delicious prasad plate and put it in front of her husband. The Indian wife is very sweet and she fans him. Maybe this is just unimagined for you, but this is true. Because when the (western) husband is taking prasad I think the wife is never fanning him. Is this true or not? She is never fanning… But maybe in some place it is happening… (Laughing) With an electric fan. But in Indian culture, if you see in Ramayan, while Ramacandra is taking prasad Sita Devi is fanning Him. She is fanning Ramacandra with palm leaves. This is the Indian culture.

So, while this husband is taking prasad the wife is sitting in front of him and starts to speak something. Maybe she says some harsh words, because wife and husband sometime have loving quarrels. The wife says: “This is your fault!” and the husband says: “This is your fault!!” (Joking) Then, the husband becomes very angry and take the prasad plate and throw it out.

Why? Because today is not predestinated to you to take prasad! Everything is written.

In my life I also realized it many times. When I travel to many countries and they cook pasta, pizza and I say: “Oh, my God!” (He didn´t eat pasta or pizza) or maybe they cook brown rice that I cannot eat. They say: “Look, Maharaj, this is very expensive rice!” but I cannot eat. This is 100% true. Everything is predestinated, even if you will take prasad or not. You cannot change your karma. The only way to change your karma is to chant the holy name.

Hare Krishna

Krishna Krishna

All your previous sins will be changed. Without the holy names you cannot change your karma. A hundred percent. Chant holy names, you can change your karma. If you go to an astrologist, he will see your hand lines. But if you chant the holy names, all your lines will be changed. Every good things will come.

Once in South Africa, I gave one class, then I told this katha. At that time, a lady became very upset: “Maharaj, all my students of astrology, if they chant holy names they won’t come to my class! And I will have no money!”

So now coming in this way, all the friends of Mother Yasoda clap their hands and laugh: “Yasode, you cannot bind Krsna’s belly. It is not in His fade.” But Mother Yasoda says: “No, I have to bind!” So much perspiration dropping from her body. Then Krsna thinks: “Oh, now My mother is very tired. I have to let her bind Me”.

So, Sukadev Gosvami says:

(Verse)

Krsna is merciful, He bound Himself. But how Mother Yasoda bound Krsna? She gave up all the ropes and with the same first rope, she bound Krsna in the grinding mortar. Maybe one question will come, Krsna is Bhagavan, so how possible is to Mother Yasoda bound to Krsna? He is Paramatma, supersoul, where is not the supersoul? He is everywhere. Supersoul resides everywhere: inside, outside, everywhere. In our heart, in our body. Without supersoul there is not any atom.

If you are intelligent, try to understand this philosophy. When Mother Yasoda bound Krsna with the rope, inside the rope were the Paramatma, supersoul. Outside also, same Paramatma, so how is possible to Mother Yasoda bind Krsna with only a rope?

Saying this verse, (verse), Krsna bound Himself. So, did Mother Yasoda bind Krsna or not? Yes. She bound Krsna with her parental mood, vatsalya rasa. (verse).

Jnanis cannot bind Krsna. But she could with her vatsalya prema.

Then coming back the history, always that Mother Yasoda tried to bind Krsna there were two fingers shortage. Why two fingers, not three fingers, four fingers, one finger? That is called: our endeavors and then Krsna’s mercy. That means you do bhajan, chant holy names, then Krsna mercy will come, this is the process.

Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu taught to us in this way, there is two logics we have to remember: the logic of the kitten and the logic of the monkey.

You know, kitten, baby cat is completely dependent of his mother. Who has cat? When the mother cat gives birth to her kitten, baby meows. Then the mother cat takes the kitten from one place to another. The kitten is completely dependent of his mother.

In the same way, in the path of bhakti, you have to be completely surrendered to Krsna.

(Verse)

These are the six limbs of surrender.

The other logic is the monkey logic. The baby monkey holds his mother back. The mother monkey does not hold her baby. Have you seen? In India, in Seva Kunja you see this.

In the same way, when you show your endeavors, doing bhajan and sadhan, you surrender to Krsna. So Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu mixed these two logics: the kitten logic and the monkey logic.

That means that if you do bhajan and sadan, then Krsna will bind you.

So, in this way, Mother Yasoda binds Krsna with her vatsalya bhava, parental mood. How Mother Yasoda is fortunate!

Brahma, Siva and even Laksmi devi don’t have this type of fortune. But Mother Yasoda binds Krsna with her vatsalya bhava.

That means that without bhakti no one can bind Krsna. This is the conclusion. And what kind of bhakti? With Vaikhunta bhakti you cannot bind Krsna. Even with Ayodhya, Mathura or Dvarka bhakti you cannot completely bind Krsna. If you want to bind Krsna, only with Vraja bhakti, prema bhakti. In this way, Mother Yasoda bound Krsna with her vatsalya prema.

Now that Krsna is bound, He should not open the knots.

The black bee can make a hole in the dry wood tree. But the same black bee, when goes to collect the honey from the lotus flower and while in the flower it closes with the sunset, then the black bee cannot come outside, he stays inside the flower.

And it happened because the black bee drinks so much honey that his body becomes completely intoxicated and he cannot move itself. The same black bee that makes a hole in the dry wood cannot cut the very soft petal of the lotus.

In the same way, when Krsna is completely intoxicated with the divine love of the devotee, He never comes out of the heart of His devotee. Try to understand, but with which kind of prema? Vraja prema. Without Vraja prema no one can control Krsna.

And there are three types of Vraja prema: friendship mood (sakhya), parental mood (vatsalya) and conjugal mood. And Krsna is completely and absolutely tied with the conjugal mood which remains in the heart of Srimati Radhika.

So Srimati Radhika can completely and absolutely bind Krsna. For this regard, Krsna says this verse:

(Verse)

Krsna says: “He Srimati Radhika, I am completely indebted with Your divine love”.

For this regard, Srimati Radhika controls Krsna with Her divine love, prema.

In this material world, the kinds of prema are the perverted reflection of Goloka Vrnadavan. In this material world, the mother can control her baby, but when the same baby grows up a little bit, at that time the baby is controlled by his friends. But when the same baby becomes young, he cannot be controlled by his friends, mother or father. Now he is completely controlled by who? By his loved and beloved. Is this true or wrong?

You have experience in this. When you become young, you are completely captivated for the loved and beloved. That love is there. But in this material world the love is not love, it is lust. But in the transcendental world, the conjugal love is the perfect love, suddha prema.

Before Krsna performs His highest lila: rasa lila, He performs two very important lila: Krsna chastises Kaliya and lifts Giriraj Govardhan.

Krsna’s topmost lila is called rasa lila, beyond human being lila, nara lila. Human beings cannot perform rasa lila. If you want to perform rasa lila, you will die. Only Bhagavan. But which Bhagavan, Vaikhuntapati Narayana? Or Lord Ayodhapati Ramacandra or Dvarkadisa Krsna? No. Only Vrajendra Nandana Syamasundar performs rasa lila.

So, Sukadev Gosvamipad told: “Before the rasa lila, Krsna performs two lilas and He says: ‘If anyone want imitate my rasa lila, this person have to first perform my other two lilas’”.

Kali-yuga means this: everybody wants to imitate: “oh, Krsna performed rasa lila, I want also to perform rasa lila”.

You cannot control one boyfriend and girlfriend, so much sweat coming, how possible to them to perform rasa lila as like Krsna? Stupid nonsense!

One wife you cannot control also, is this true or wrong? You have much experience. I have no experience in this, this is true, because when I was twenty-one years old I left my house (to live in the temple).

In the Indian culture there is no boyfriend and girlfriend so I have no experience in what’s the meaning of western boyfriend and girlfriend. You have much experience. One boyfriend or girlfriend comes and your mind becomes completely crazy. You say: “Maharaj, my boyfriend left me, my girlfriend left me, so I cannot do bhajan and sadhan and I cannot receive you this time”.

All the programs were scheduled but came an e-mail saying: “Maharaj, I’m sorry. This time my girlfriend left me so I cannot arrange your program”.

And Krsna performs rasa dance with how many gopis? Three hundred million, you cannot imagine.

So, for this regard, before rasa dance Krsna performed two main lilas: He chastises Kaliya and lifts Giriraj Govardhan. So Krsna says: “Don’t imitate Me, I am Bhagavan. I can do. Don’t imitate Me”.

Jay Giriraja, jay Govardhana!!
