Radha Tattva Katha (class 12) Russia 2015

Radha Tattva (class number 12)
Russia
9th September, 2015

Following is the continuation class yesterday‘s class. Krsnera aradhita iti radha, Srimati Radhika is also worshipped by Krsna. Hence, Her name is called Radha.
anayārādhito nūnaṁ
bhagavān harir īśvaraḥ
yan no vihāya govindaḥ
prīto yām anayad rahaḥ
Truly the Personality of Godhead has been worshiped by Her. Therefore Lord Govinda, being pleased, has brought Her to a lonely spot, leaving us all behind.
(SB 10.30.28 & CC Adi-lila 4.88)

In this verse of Srimad-Bhagavatam, it is stated that Candravali and her sakhis also serve  Srimati Radhika‘s lotus feet on the bank of Yamuna. During this time, they also glorified Srimati Radhika because She is the best and super excellent, and dearmost to Krsna. Although in Srimad-Bhagavatam, Sukadeva Gosvamipad did not mention the name of any gopis, however Visvanatha Cakravartipad and Srila Jiva Gosvamipad explained in their commentaries that all the slokas of Srimad-Bhagavatam were the glorification of Srimati Radhika. In actual fact, Srimad-Bhagavatam always glorifies about Srimati Radhika, Radha parama tattva Srimad-Bhagavatam.

On remembering his guru, Srimati Radhika, the ecstatic mood arose in Srila Sukadeva Goswamipad. This is when Sukadeva Goswamipad felt the pang of separation from Srimati Radhika and for this reason he did not mention Her name. Nonetheless, Sukadeva Goswamipad mentioned the names of the gopis and especially Sritmati Radhika in a concealed manner in many verses of the Srimad Bahagavatam.

Whenever  Sukadeva Gosvamipad remembers his guru Srimati Radhika, he would faint and becomes unconscious for sa duration of six months. However, Sukadeva Gosvami knew that he has to explaine Srimad Bhagavatam katha within seven days to Maharaj Pariksit. For this regard, he did not Srimati Radhika‘s name directly.

In addition, Srila Visvanatha Cakravartipad in his commentary he noted that when Srila Sukadeva Gosvamipad attempted to glorify about Srimati Radhika and the gopi but they appeared in the heart of Sukadeva Gosvamipad, “Hey! Suka, don‘t mention our names“. The  is so, when Sukadeva Gosvamipad was discussing Bhagavat-katha at that time, many unqualified people assembled to listen to his narration. Many of them were karmis, jnanis, yogis, impersonalists, et cetera. As such, Sukadeva Gosvamipad did not utter the name of any gopi and especially Srimati Radhika. Srila Vyasadeva Gosvamipad had written Srimati Radhika‘s name in many Puranas. Radha‘s name is in Brahmanda Puran, and other Puranas  of Srimati Radhika‘s name.

As I have said yesterday, Srimati Radhika fulfills all the desires of Krsna. Wherever Krsna is, there is Radha and wherever Radha is, there is Krsna. Radha and Krsna are always together.

rādhā-kṛṣṇa aiche sadā eka-i svarūpa
līlā-rasa āsvādite dhare dui-rūpa

Rādhā and Lord Kṛṣṇa are one, yet They have taken two forms to enjoy the mellows of pastimes.
(CC, Adi-lila 9.98)

Radha-Krsna is one form. They manifested two forms as Radha and Krsna to relish the mellows of Their lila, pastimes. Radha and Krsna are inseparabe. As like milk and the colour of the milk remains together. The colour of the milk is white. Milk cannot be separated from the colour and the colour cannot be separated from the milk. Fire and its heat of the fire are not separable. Similarly, according to tattva-siddhanta, the conception of the scriptures, Krsna is sarva-saktiman, and Srimati Radhika is sarva-sakti.

rādhā--pūrṇa-śakti, kṛṣṇa--pūrṇa-śaktimān
dui vastu bheda nāi, śāstra-paramāṇa

Śrī Rādhā is the full power, and Lord Kṛṣṇa is the possessor of full power. The two are not different, as evidenced by the revealed scriptures.
(CC, Adi-lila 4.96)

Vedas, Upanisads always glorify about Radha and Krsna, Krsna and Radha. Krsna is  avatari, the source of all incarnations. When He appears in Vaikuntha form as Narayana, Srimati Radhika also appears in Her Vaikuntha form as Laksmi-devi.

When Krsna appears in Dvaraka Puri, Srimati Radhika also appears with Krsna in the form of Satyabhama. And in Vrndavan, Radha and Krsna always remain together performing sweet lilas.
In Vrndavan, Srimati Radhika fulfills the desires of Krsna in the form of many types of gopis.

ākāra svabhāva-bhede vraja-devī-gaṇa
kāya-vyūha-rūpa tāṅra rasera kāraṇa

The Vraja-devīs have diverse bodily features. They are Her expansions and are the instruments for expanding rasa.

bahu kāntā vinā nahe rasera ullāsa
līlāra sahāya lāgi' bahuta prakāśa

Without many consorts, there is not such exultation in rasa. Therefore there are many manifestations of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī to assist in the Lord's pastimes.

tāra madhye vraje nānā bhāva-rasa-bhede
kṛṣṇake karāya rāsādika-līlāsvāde

Among them are various groups of consorts in Vraja who have varieties of sentiments and mellows. They help Lord Kṛṣṇa taste all the sweetness of the rāsa dance and other pastimes.

(CC, Adi-lila 4.79-81)

Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami explained in Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, without many consorts Krsna is not happy. So, Srimati Radhika manifested many forms of the gopis. And  kṛṣṇake karāya rāsādika-līlāsvāde, She also gives pleasure to Krsna in rasa dance also. In rasa dance sometimes Srimati Radhika does maan, sulky mood. It is revealed in Srimad-Bhagavatam, when Krsna performes rasa dance with the gopis, Krsna manifested many forms to dance with many other gopis. During this time,  all the gopis were so much intoxicated with their fortune, saubhagya mada. Meantime, Krsna was with Srimati Radhika in the centre of the rasa dance. Two gopis, in the middle one Krsna. One Krsna with two gopis. In this way Krsna performed rasa-lila in Vrndavan. By Yogamaya‘s spell, all the gopis thought, “I am only with Krsna“. They were so much intoxicated with their fortune, so much saubhagya mada.

Then Srimati Radhika noticed, “Oh! Krsna is abig cheater. Always He is saying, “Hey! Radhe, I am only Yours“, but now Krsna is dancing with the other gopis“. That time Srimati Radhika‘s maan coming, angry mood coming. Srimati Radhika stopped dancing with Krsna. Krsna thought, “I have to relieve the gopis pride, the intoxication of their fortune (saubhagya mada), and show them further mercy“. For this regard, tatraivantaradhiyata Keshava.

tāsāṁ tat-saubhaga-madaṁ
vīkṣya mānaṁ ca keśavaḥ
praśamāya prasādāya
tatraivāntaradhīyata

The gopīs became proud of their great fortune. To subdue their sense of superiority and show them special favour, Keśava, the subduer of even Lord Brahmā and Lord Śiva, disappeared from the rāsa dance.

(SB, 10.29.48 & CC, Antya-lila 15.81)

That time Krsna disappeared from the rasa dance and the rasa dance stopped. Srila Jayadev Gosvamipad also very nicely discussed about Vasanti rasa dance on the lap of Giriraj Govardhan in Chandra sarovar. So, when Srimati Radhika was in Her maan and left the rasa dance, that time rasa dance also stopped. Millions of gopis were there but only Srimati Radhika left the rasa dance. Subseuently, Krsna also stopped and left the rasa dance,  chasing behind Srimati Radhika.

Jayadev Gosvamipad explained, Krsna is chasing behind Srimati Radhika, Who left the assembly of rasa dance. Although millions of gopis were there but the rasa stopped when Srimati Radhika left the rasa dance. As a result, the rasa dance came to a halt.

The reason Srimati Radhika manifested Her maan and left the rasa dance amongst other activities in the pastimes She did was solely for the pleasure of Krsna, Krsna sukh deti. In this way, Srimati Radhika gives pleasure to Krsna with meeting and separation.
rādhikādi lañā kaila rāsādi-vilāsa
vāñchā bhari' āsvādila rasera niryāsa

In youth, He tasted the essence of rasa, fulfilling His desires in pastimes like the rāsa dance with Śrīmatī Rādhikā and the other gopīs.

(CC, Adi-lila 4.114)

In this way, Srimati Radhika gives pleasure to Krsna in rasa dance different different ways. Meeting-separation, separation and meeting. Without separation, meeting will not be sweet and relishable. For this regard, Yoga-maya arranges this lila. Separation nourishes the meeting. When there is separation, then more and more meeting coming and so much eagerness coming, and relishing mood coming. As like the cloth, if you put into saffron dye, more and more if you put in the saffron dye, then in that colour more delightfulness will come.

In this way Srimati Radhika fulfills all the desires of Krsna through meeting and separation and vice versa as confirmed in the holy scriptures.

govindānandinī rādhā, govinda-mohinī
govinda-sarvasva, sarva-kāntā-śiromaṇi

Rādhā is the one who gives pleasure to Govinda, and She is also the enchantress of Govinda. She is the be-all and end-all of Govinda, and the crest jewel of all His consorts.

(CC, Adi-lila4.82)

"The transcendental goddess Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī is the direct counterpart of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa. She is the central figure for all the goddesses of fortune. She possesses all the attractiveness to attract the all-attractive Personality of Godhead. She is the primeval internal potency of the Lord."
(CC, Adi-lila 4.83)

This preceeding verse is also stated in Brhad Gautamiya tantra. Govinda nandini radha, Govinda means Krsna, His another name is Govinda. Go means He gives pleasure to all the senses of the gopis, Veda, Upanisad, state this. For this regard, His name is Govinda. And Srimati Radhika is called Govinda nandini, meaning Srimati Radhika gives pleasure to Krsna, who gives pleasure to all the living entities. So Srimati Radhika‘s another name is called Govindaa. Krsna‘s another name is Govinda, and Srimati Radhika‘s another name is called Govindaa. That means Srimati Radhika also gives pleasure, ananda, to Govinda. Therefore, Her name is called Govinda nandini. Her name is Radha, that means krsnera aradhita iti radha, and Krsna also worships Her lotus feet. Hence, Her name is called also Radha. Krsna has deep attachment and running behind Her. For this regard, Her name is called Radha. ‘Ra‘ means ‚anuragena‘, deep attachment and ‘dha‘ means to chase‘. That means Krsna is chasing behind Srimati Radhika with deep attachment. So, Her name is Radha. If you chant Radha-nama, then all your sinful activities will be destroyed and Krsna will enter your heart.

In the Puranas, it is explained that one who chants Radha-nama, then Krsna will be chasing behind that person. Radhe Radhe japo chale aeyenge bihari. The Vrajavasis says, “if you  chant Radha-nama, Krsna will be chasing behind you. Krsna confirmed, “If anybody chants My consort Srimati Radhika‘s name, then I cannot control Myself. I will chase after him“. Likewise, for one who chants Krsna-nama, Srimati Radhika will also chase behind that person.

Once, a young girl was glorifying about Krsna and Jagannath also started chasing her. Jaya Jaya deva hare. That means one who glorifies Krsna, Srimati Radhika will chase afterthe person. Srta kamala kucha mandala dhrta kundala e, kalita lalita vana mala jaya jaya deva hare. Radha krsna govinda gopala, nanda-dulala, yasoda-dulala, jaya jaya deva hare (Sri Mangala-gitam by Srila Jayadeva Gosvami). When Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu heard this song from the young girl, He began chasing behind her. As I have also discussed on Radha-nama.If you chant Radha-nama, Krsna will be chasing behind you. If you chant Krsna-nama, then Radha will also chase behind you. Srila Narottama dasa Thakura sang a song – if you chant Krsna-nama, Srimati Radhika will chase after you because She is very happy.

Namami nanda-nandanam, namami nanda-nandanam, namami nana-nandanam, namami nanda-nandanam (singing). If you sing this “Namami nanda-nandanam“, then Srimati Radhika will be chasing behind you because She is very happy. And if you glorify Srimati Radhika, then Krsna will be very happy.

"Oh You who are adorned by the leaders of multitude of sages! Oh You who takes away the miseries of the three worlds! Oh You whose face joyfully blooms like a lotus flower! Oh You who delights in playing love-sports throughout the secret forest bower-houses! Oh most charming daughter of Vrsabhanu, beloved of the King of Vraja, Sri Krsna! Oh You who are always associated with the King of Vraja, Sri Krsna! When? Oh! When will You make me the object of Your side-long glance of causeless mercy?"

Namami nanda-nandanam, namami nanda-nandanam, namami nanda-nandanam, namami nanda-nandanam.

“I offer pranama to Nandanandana, whose face is extremely delightful, in whose beautiful ears hang jeweled earrings, and whose entire body is anointed with fragrant candana”

Namami nanda-nandanam, namami nanda-nandanam, namami nanda-nandanam, namami nanda-nandanam.

Namami nanda-nandanam and munindra vrnda vandite, both songs should be sung together, then Radha-Krsna will always be with you. So the name Radha means Krsna is always chasing behind Srimati Radhika with deep attachment. For this regard, Her name is called Radha. ‘Ra’ means ‘anuraga’, deep attachment. ‘Dha’ means ‘to chase’, ‘to run behind’. Her name is called also Govinda Mohini, meaning She enchants the heart of Krsna. For this regard, Her name is called Govinda Mohini. Govinda sarva sya - Srimati Radhika gives everything to Krsna. Her heart and soul, everything to Krsna.

kṛṣṇa-mayī--kṛṣṇa yāra bhitare bāhire

Kṛṣṇa-mayī means "one whose within and without are Lord Kṛṣṇa." She sees Lord Kṛṣṇa wherever She casts Her glance.
(CC, Adi-lila 4.85)

Yāṅhā yāṅhā netra paḍe tāṅhā kṛṣṇa sphure, She sees Lord Kṛṣṇa wherever She casts Her glance (CC, Adi-lila 4.85). Wherever She is looking, everywhere is Govinda, Govinda, Govinda, Krsna, Krsna, Krsna. And Krsna also, everywhere looking – Radha, Radha, Radha, Radha.

govindānandinī rādhā, govinda-mohinī

Rādhā is the one who gives pleasure to Govinda, and She is also the enchantress ofGovinda. She is the be-all and end-all of Govinda, and the crest jewel of all His consorts.

Srimati Radhika is the crown jewel of all the consorts of Krsna. Krsna has three types of consorts, in Vaikuntha, Dvaraka, and Vrndavan. However, in Vrndavan there is Srimati Radhika. She is rasesvari, sarvesvari, She is the Supreme controller, She is called sarvesvari Srimati Radhika. Krsna is called sarvesvar, the supreme controller, and Srimati Radhika is the supreme controller of Krsna. So Srimati Radhika is called sarvesvari. Brhad Gautamiya tantra also confirmed in this verse.

'devī' kahi dyotamānā, paramā sundarī
kimvā, kṛṣṇa-pūjā-krīḍāra vasati nagarī

"Devī" means "resplendent and most beautiful." Or else it means "the lovely abode of the worship and love sports of Lord Kṛṣṇa."
(CC, Adi-lila 4.84)

There are many meanings of the word, ‘devi’. One who dance in the heart of all the living entities is called deva. For the feminine gender is called devi. That means one who resides in the heart of all the living entities. Srimati Radhika is devi.

he deva he dayita he bhuvanaika-bandho
he kṛṣṇa he capala he karuṇaika-sindho
he nātha he ramaṇa he nayanābhirāma
hā hā kadā nu bhavitāsi padaṁ dṛśor me

"O My Lord! O dearest one! O only friend of the universe! O Kṛṣṇa, O restless one, O ocean of mercy! O My Lord, O My enjoyer, O beloved to My eyes! Alas, when will You again be visible to Me?"
(CC, Madhya-lila 2.65)

Srimati Radhika glorified about Krsna, “He Krsna, You are the deva.” Deva means one who dances in the heart of all the living entities. And Srimati Radhika is devi which means one who is very beautiful and attractive, 'devī' kahi dyotamānā, paramā sundarī.

Who can glorify the beautiful form of Srimati Radhika? From Her toenails to the end of Her hair, She is resplendent and most beautiful. Naka chandra ma. Even the rays of the moons from Her toenails are very beautiful and attractive. All kinds of riddhi-siddhi, mystic power emanating from the toenails of Srimati Radhika. All the inhabitants of Visnuloka go to Vrndavan to perform arati with ghee lamp to the toenails of Srimati Radhika.

Oh You who is the bestower of benedictions to the daughter of the Himalayas, Parvati (Siva's wife), the daughter of Puloma, Saci (Indra's wife), and to Brahma's wife, Sarasvati! Oh You Whose toenails glow with the radiance of boundless mystic perfections and opulences! When oh, when will you make me the object of Your side-long glance of causeless mercy?"
(Sri Radha-krpa-kataksa-stava-raja verse 11)

Ananta-koti-visnu-loka, not only one but millions of millions of Visnulokas habitants from Vaikunthas are going there to worship the lotus feet of Srimati Radhika. All the chaste ladies, brahmanis, Sivanis, and Indranis are also worshipping the lotus feet of Srimati Radhika. It is impossible to completely glorify Srimati Radhika, Who is the chaste lady, crown jewel of all the chaste ladies. That is why She is kown as Ramani-siromani.

Ramaṇī-śiromaṇi, bṛṣabhānu-nandinī, nīla-vasana-paridhāna, Srimati Radhika is the crest jewel of all beautiful young maidens, the beloved daughter of King Brshabanu (Ramani siromani. Official name of this hymm is Radhikastakam 3 by Bhaktivinoda Thakur as stated in his Gitavali – different from Sri Radhastakam 3 by Krsna Kaviraja Goswami). Bhaktivinoda Thakur sang this hymm. Ramani-siromani, vrsabhanu-nandini. The daughter of Vrsabhanu Maharaja Srimati Radhika is the crown jewel of the chaste ladies.

This is the reason She is called, devī kahi dyotamānā parama sundari. She is most beautiful and attractive, parama sundari. Her beautiful (sundari) form from Her toenails to Her hair of the head with very beautiful eyes, nose, face, hands, legs. Every part of Her is perfect. She is also expert in all kinds of arts. And she is intoxicated with Her beautiful form.

Oh You, the most learned in arranging amorous pastimes of pure love in super opulent secret bower houses in the best of forests! When? Oh, When will You make me the object of Your side-long glance of causeless mercy?"
(Sri Radha-krpa-kataksa-stava-raja, verse 5)

Madonmadati-yauvane – She is completely intoxicated with Her beautiful form. Very beautiful. Pramoda-mana-mandite priyanuraga-ranjite – She is very expert in intoxicating Krsna. There are 64 types of art, and She knows all of them. ananya-dhanya-kuñja-rājya-kāma-keli-kovide – and She is very expert in nikunja sadhana lila, how to captivate Krsna.

Who goes to mangala-arati? Where is mangala-arati going on? It is only takes place on the bank of Yamuna which is very beautiful transcendental kunja lila. Only sakhis can go there. Even Candravali is unable to enter this pastimes. Only Lalita, Visakha, Rūpa Manjari, Rati Manjari and Srimati Radhika’s group can be there.

Srila Bhakti Prajnana Kesava Gosvami Maharaj wrote this hymm explaining the essence of sri krsna-bhagavatamrtam and Krsnadasa Kaviraj‘s grantha, Govinda-lilamrta. What is arati ? Who attends mangala-arati ? Even those who are in the mood of santa, dasya, sakhya, vatsalya are unable to enter this mangala arati pastimes. It is only Srimati Radhika and Her group. It is impossible to go there with our present material body. Only those with their transcendental body is able to enter this pastime. Srila Krsnadas Kaviraj Gosvami explained  the bank of Yamuna is the very a confidential place, nikunja shala. Very confidential. Those who are in the moods of santa, dasya, vatsalya and even Mother Yasoda cannot enter this confidential place. Even Subal and Sridhama are not allowed.

Yogamaya does not not allow them to go in there. That place is highly confidential. That is why it is called nikunja-mangal-lila, very confidential place. Yogamaya arranges everythings and strictly guards this confidential place. Even priya-nama-sakha, Subal and Sridham are not allowed thereat. They cannot go there. Sakha, prana-sakha, priya-sakha, parama-prestha-sakha. Subal and Sridham are also called parama-prestha-sakha, but also Yogamaya does not allow them to enter this mangalarati. Not possible. Krsna has four types of sakhas – sakha, prana-sakha, priya-sakha, parama-prestha-sakha. Example, prana-prestha-sakha such as Subal, Sridham, Madhu-mangal and others. Even to them who are very close and very dear to Krsna are unable to enter this place as Yogamaya will stop them.

Vatsalya Nanda-Yasoda also don‘t go there. What to say of Candravali‘s party ? They cannot go there. Only Lalita, Visakha, Rūpa Manjari and Rati Manjari. Even Lalita and Visakha would have to seek permission from Rūpa Manjari and Rati Manjari should they wish to enter this higly confidential place.

tambularpana pada mardana payo danabhisaradhibhir

"She brings Radha and Krsna tambula (a betel nut preparation) and water that has been very sweetly flavored with milk and herbs (payo-dana). Tambul arpana: She brings a golden pot when Radhika and Krsna want to spit the betel after chewing it."
(Vraja-Vilasa-Stava, verse 38, Raghunatha dasa)

As stated on verse 38 in Vraja-vilasa stava, Srila Raghunatha dasa Gosvami fervent prayer. Tambularpana pada mardana payo danabhisaradhibhir, all the manjaris are serving in that very confidential place. Even Lalita and Visakha would have have to take the permission from Rūpa Manjari and Rati Manjari if they wish to enter into the highly confidential place. Prana-prestha-sakhi-kulad api kilasaíkocita bhumikah. Prana-prestha-sakhi like Lalita and Visakha, who are in the very highest level, as like staying all the time with Srimati Radhika. However, they cannot go there. And if you want to go, you have to take the permission from Rūpa Manjari and Rati Manjari. Prana-prestha-sakhi-kulad api kilasaíkocita bhumikah, Rupa Manjari is dasi also in this way. Raghunatha dasa Gosvami, “I humbly request again and again at the lotus feet of Rūpa Manjari“. That means I want to serve to Srimati Radhika under the guidance of Rūpa Manjari. So if one wish to attend mangalarati, there must be greed for mangalarati. Then you will absorb in that mood. Understand in this way. Just I am telling you, try to understand. You cannot understand at the moment. This is transcendental, aprakrta. How is it possible to understand the transcendental realm ? By just listening what I am saying, some greed will come.

As I was saying,

rādhā-kṛṣṇera līlā ei ati gūḍhatara
dāsya-vātsalyādi-bhāve nā haya gocara

"The pastimes of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa are very confidential. They cannot be understood through the mellows of servitude, fraternity or paternal affection."

sabe eka sakhī-gaṇera ihāṅ adhikāra

"Actually, only the gopīs have the right to appreciate these transcendental pastimes, and only from them can these pastimes be expanded."

(CC, Madhya-lila 8.201-203)

The mangalarati of Radha-Krsna pastimes is highly confidential.

Rādhā-kṛṣṇera līlā ei ati gūḍhatara. Rādhā-kṛṣṇera līlā. Lila means the mangala arti pastimes. Gūḍhatara means very very confidential.

Without the help of the gopīs, one cannot enter into these pastimes. Only he who worships the Lord in the ecstasy of the gopīs, following in their footsteps, can engage in the service of Śrī Śrī Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa in the bushes of Vṛndāvana. Only then can one understand the conjugal love between Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa. There is no other procedure for understanding.
(CC, Madhya-lila 8.204-205)

To enter in this mangalarati place, you have to absorb in the mood of guru. Guru-rūpa-sakhi-jane. Guru-rupa-sakhe is there. Then, under the directon of guru-rūpa-sakhi, you will become qualified to enter in this highly confidential place. Otherwise, not. As like Srila Narottama dasa Thakura prayed:

prabhu lokanatha kabe sange lana jabe
sri-rupera pada-padme more samarpibe

When will my holy master, Lokanatha Swami (who is also the master of the whole world) take me with him and offer me at the lotus feet of Sri Rupa manjari ?

hena ki haibe mora - narma-sakhi-gana
anugata narottame karibe sasane

When will that time come, when Radha’s dearmost narma sakhis will give direct instructions to Narottama, accepting him as their intimate follower
(Sri Rupanugatya-Mahatmya - Suniyachi Sadhu-mukhe, The glories of the Rupanugas verses 4 and 5, by Srila Narottama dasa Thakura)

suniyachi sadhu-mukhe bale sarba-jana
sri-rupa-krpaya mile jugala-carana

From the sadhus’ lips I have heard it told to everyone – by Sri Rupa’s mercy one can attain Sri Yugala’s lotus feet.
(Sri Rupanugatya-Mahatmya - Suniyachi Sadhu-mukhe, The glories of the Rupanugas verse 1, by Srila Narottama dasa Thakura)

Srila Narottama dasa Thakura wrote this song. Suniyachi sadhu-mukhe bale sarba-jana

Sri-rupa-krpaya mile jugala-carana – without the guidance of Srila Rūpa Gosvami, Rūpa Manjari, one cannot enter mangalarati. This is highly confidential. Read the translation so you can understand a bit.  Srila Narottama dasa Thakura was absorbed with his guru-rūpa-sakhi, Manjulali manjari. His guru is Lokanatha dasa Gosvami. His transcendental form is Manjulali manjari. In a humble mood, Srila Narottama dasa Thakura sung in this prayer, “kabe prabhu lokanatha kabe sange lana jabe sri-rupera pada-padme more samarpibe, when will my Gurudev, Lokanatha dasa Gosvami (that means in Radha-Krsna lila, Manjulali), will take me and offer to the lotus feet of Rūpa Manjari?”

Kabe lokanatha more sange lana jabe sri-rupera pada-padme more samarpibe hena ki haibe mora-narma-sakhi-gana anugata narottame karibe sasane, “When will my fortune come, and other sakhis, especially Lalita and Visakha will give me some instructions?” sasane means ‘instructions’. “Hey, you go this service, this service”. “When Lalita and Visakha will give me instructions?” For example, Lalita and Visakha may say, “Just before mangalarati, you have to bring some flower petals and flowers to make garlands. Prepare for sandalwood paste (chandan). Prepare some warm water for Radha and Krsna’s bath. When They wake up, you have to prepare all kinds of ingredients for washing the mouth and everything else. In the golden pot you have to put very sweet fragrant water. And one warm damp cloth and a pot to clean the mouths, lips, and eyes of Srimati Radhika and Krsna”. As like, when you are in a long haul flight, the stewardess will provide one warm cloth for freshening up.

Why I am saying this? Because Lalita and Visakha will give this type of instructions to you for servicing of Srimati Radhika such as preparing all kinds of ingredients for the bathing and everything else. They are saying everything like, “prepare all Their clothes very nicely”.

Tambularpana pada mardana payo danabhisaradhibhir vrndaranya-mahervarim (Vraja-Vilasa-Stava, verse 38, Raghunatha dasa), all kinds of service they are doing. Srila Narottama dasa Thakura is praying, “Lalita and Visakha, when they will give me instructions?” ‘Sasana’ means “When they will give me some instructions how to serve to Radha and Krsna before They wake up?” So, Srila Narottama dasa Thakura was prayig in this way, “When my Gurudev, Manjulali manjari”. Narottama dasa Thakura’s guru-rūpa-sakhi is Manjulali manjari, “When he (Manjulali manjari) will bring me in front of Rūpa Gosvami, or Rūpa Manjari, Lalita, Visakha?” With very sweet songs you can glorify to Radha and Krsna there. Ananda kanda vrajera-candra – “Please wake up!” and they are singing very sweet melodies there. As the sun rises, they began to sing, “Please, wake up! He Srimati Radhike! He Krsna! Please, wake up”. All types of melodies can be learn from Lalita and Visakha.

palya-dasi kori`, lalita sundari,
amare loiya kabe
sri-radhika-pade, kale milaibe,
ajna-seba samarpibe

“When will Lalita Sundari foster me as her own aspirant novice maid servant? Then later she will offer me up unto the lotus feet of Srimati Radharani, and will place me entirely at Her disposal for rendering various services according to Her own merciful orders.”
(Palya Dasi Kori, Siddhi Lalasa Song 4 from Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura’s Gitamala)

Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura sang, “When the time will come, when Lalita and Visakha will give me many different instructions and how to learn all kinds of activities?” Sri visakha-pade, sangita sikhibo – “I will learn all kinds of melodies from Visakha devi”. The eight prominent sakhis are Lalita, Visakha, Sudevi, Rangadevi, Tungavidya, Campakalata, Citra, Indulekha and Sudevi who are expert in many different kinds of activities. “So I have to learn from all the prominent sakhis of Srimati Radhika”.

So, in mangalarati, they sing in very nice sweet way, soft and sweet way. Govinda Damodara Madhaveti, Govinda Damodara Madhaveti, Govinda Damodara Madhaveti, Govinda Damodara Madhaveti. He Krsna He Yadava He Sakheti, Govinda Damodara Madhaveti.

“He Govinda! He Krsna! He Rasa-sindhu!”. Rasa-sindhu means the ocean of divine mellows. Rasa-sindhu Krsna, please, wake up. Vrajavasis are singing, koi na beli patiko jagabe pranesa jago ab ninda tyago belay yahi hai gita gavo, [with pails in their hands some sweet young girls, with their two hands begin milking the cows, they sing to the rhythm of the milk squirting (flowing)], Govinda Damodara Madhaveti, Govinda Damodara Madhaveti, Govinda Damodara Madhaveti.

Mangala arati is in this way.  If you learn everything from Lalita, Visakha, Rupa Manjari and Rati Manjari, then you will be qualified to attend mangala arati. Otherwise, not. In this material body one is unable to attend mangala arati. It is only possible in one’s transcendental form.

It is stated in Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, you have to accept the mood of sakhis and manjaris mood by following the footsteps of guru-rupa-manjari. Srila Narottama dasa Thakura is praying to his guru-rupa-sakhi, Manjulali manjari. When Manjulali manjari offered him to the lotus feet of Rupa Manjari, then Rupa Manjari offered Ananga majari to the lotus feet of Srimati Radhika. By this process, Srila Narottama dasa Thakura entered the very nice beautiful confidential place by serving Srimati Radhika making Her a soft bed. She made a very nice soft bed. Then Srimati Radhika is very pleased with her.

Srimati Radhika asked Sri Rupa Manjari, “He Rupa Manjari! Who is this new young girl?” Rupa Manjari replied, “She is very clever. She is not taking the name. I don’t know”. Manjulali ami abhilasi e nama dasi, I don’t know her name. Manjulali gave me. So, I also engaged her in the service of Your lotus feet. Please accept her”. Narottama dasa Thakura’s siddha-deha, the spiritual constitutional form, is Anu Vilasa Manjari. So, the conversation between Rupa manjari and Srmati Radhika as follows, “Manjulali ane more bhila e anu vilasa dasi, Oh, Manjulali offered to me this new beautiful young girl”. Srimati Radhika replied, “Oh! Her service is very beautiful and attractive, and she is expert to serve in My kunja seva”. This is mangalarati. Firstly, wake up, take bath, and get ready prior proceeding to the place where the guru-rupa-sakhi-manjari meet with Lalita and Visakha. By the causeless mercy of Rupa Manjari, you enter that kunja. During this time, you meet guru-rupa-sakhi, and Rupa Manjari and Rati Manjari. Not Lalita and Visakha. First, Rupa Manjari and Rati Manjari. Subsequently, Rupa manjari and Rati manjari also woke up Radha and Krsna. The place was completely illuminated with the glow of golden and blue color by Srimati Radhika’s complexion as like molten gold colour and Krsna’s complexion as like blue gem. So that kunja is completely illuminated with the glow of golden and blue colour. Anyone who goes there will be able to see this. This lila, mamngala arati is going on in Nidhuvana. Nidhuvana-nagari is there. Nagar and nagari, lover and beloved, Radha and Krsna is there.

Why am I saying? Because that place is very confidential place, if you want to go this mangal-arati, this mood. Because why I am saying these things? If you enter in the mangal-arati, this mood, sakhi-bhava, without sakhi-bhava you cannot enter in there. ate sakhi bhave kore ani bika

rādhā-kṛṣṇera līlā ei ati gūḍhatara

"Without the gopīs, these pastimes between Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa cannot be nourished. Only by their cooperation are such pastimes broadcast. It is their business to taste the  mellows.
(CC, Madhya-lila 8.201-203)

If you wish to get this type of seva, kunja-seva, you have to be always absorbed with sakhi-bhava. Because male person cannot serve to Srimati Radhika, only sakhis can serve. Even Candravali cannot serve to Srimati Radhika.

'devī' kahi dyotamānā, paramā sundarī
kimvā, kṛṣṇa-pūjā-krīḍāra vasati nagarī

"Devī" means "resplendent and most beautiful." Or else it means "the lovely abode of the worship and love sports of Lord Kṛṣṇa."
(CC, Adi-lila 4.84)

Srimati Radhika serves to Krsna. Srimati Radhika’s body is as like cosmic axis. The source of everything. Everything is obtainable from there. That means Srimati Radhika’s body fulfills all the desires of Krsna. All kinds of ingredients are obtainable from there. Kṛṣṇa-pūjā-krīḍāra vasati nagarī (CC, Adi-lila 4.84), Krsna is playing in the heart of Srimati Radhika. Srimati Radhika’s body is as like this. Giving this example, upaman. All kinds of entertainment are there. And Krsna is enjoying, He is the supreme enjoyer. He enjoys all kinds of entertainment in the body of Srimati Radhika, kimvā, kṛṣṇa-pūjā-krīḍāra vasati nagarī

kṛṣṇa-mayī--kṛṣṇa yāra bhitare bāhire
yāṅhā yāṅhā netra paḍe tāṅhā kṛṣṇa sphure

"Kṛṣṇa-mayī" means "one whose within and without are Lord Kṛṣṇa." She sees Lord Kṛṣṇa wherever She casts Her glance.
(CC, Adi-lila 4.85)

Krsna-mayi, She is always absorbed with Krsna. Her eyes are blue in colour because She is always looking, Krsna, Krsna, Krsna, Krsna everywhere. Her clothes are also nila vasana gobi, blue colour.

kṛṣṇa-mayī--kṛṣṇa yāra bhitare bāhire
yāṅhā yāṅhā netra paḍe tāṅhā kṛṣṇa sphure

"Kṛṣṇa-mayī" means "one whose within and without are Lord Kṛṣṇa." She sees LordKṛṣṇa wherever She casts Her glance.

kimvā, prema-rasa-maya kṛṣṇera svarūpa
tāṅra śakti tāṅra saha haya eka-rūpa

Or, She is identical with Lord Kṛṣṇa, for She embodies the mellow of love. The energy of Lord Kṛṣṇa is identical with Him.

kṛṣṇa-vāñchā-pūrti-rūpa kare ārādhane
ataeva 'rādhikā' nāma purāṇe vākhāne

Her worship [ārādhana] consists of fulfilling the desires of Lord Kṛṣṇa. Therefore the Purāṇas call Her Rādhikā.
(CC, Adi-lila 4.85-87)

She fulfills all the desires of Krsna. All Veda, Purana explained that Her name is called Radha. Devi krsna-mayi prokta radhika para-devata (CC, Adi-lila 4.83) – ‘para’ means ‘the highest’, so She is the highest consort of Krsna.

ataeva sarva-pūjyā, parama-devatā
sarva-pālikā, sarva jagatera mātā

Therefore Rādhā is parama-devatā, the supreme goddess, and She is worshipable for everyone. She is the protectress of all, and She is the mother of the entire universe.

'sarva-lakṣmī'-śabda pūrve kariyāchi vyākhyāna
sarva-lakṣmī-gaṇera tiṅho hana adhiṣṭhāna

I have already explained the meaning of "sarva-lakṣmī." Rādhā is the original source of all the goddesses of fortune.

kimvā, 'sarva-lakṣmī'--kṛṣṇera ṣaḍ-vidha aiśvarya
tāṅra adhiṣṭhātrī śakti--sarva-śakti-varya

Or "sarva-lakṣmī" indicates that She fully represents the six opulences of Kṛṣṇa. Therefore She is the supreme energy of Lord Kṛṣṇa.

sarva-saundarya-kānti vaisaye yāṅhāte
sarva-lakṣmī-gaṇera śobhā haya yāṅhā haite

The word "sarva-kānti" indicates that all beauty and luster rest in Her body. All the lakṣmīs derive their beauty from Her.

kimvā 'kānti'-śabde kṛṣṇera saba icchā kahe
kṛṣṇera sakala vāñchā rādhātei rahe

"Kānti" may also mean "all the desires of Lord Kṛṣṇa." All the desires of Lord Kṛṣṇa rest in Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī.

rādhikā karena kṛṣṇera vāñchita pūraṇa
'sarva-kānti'-śabdera ei artha vivaraṇa

Śrīmatī Rādhikā fulfills all the desires of Lord Kṛṣṇa. This is the meaning of "sarva-kānti."

jagat-mohana kṛṣṇa, tāṅhāra mohinī
ataeva samastera parā ṭhākurāṇī

Lord Kṛṣṇa enchants the world, but Śrī Rādhā enchants even Him. Therefore She is the supreme goddess of all.

rādhā--pūrṇa-śakti, kṛṣṇa--pūrṇa-śaktimān
dui vastu bheda nāi, śāstra-paramāṇa

Śrī Rādhā is the full power, and Lord Kṛṣṇa is the possessor of full power. The two are not different, as evidenced by the revealed scriptures.
(CC, Adi-lila 4.89-96)

In this way, Srimati Radhika fulfills all the desires of Krsna in santa, dasya, sakhya, vatsalya, and madhurya. As like mother has so much parental love towards her son. Likewise, Srimati Radhika has so much parental mood towards Krsna. Vatsalya-bhava towards Krsna. Day and night She is thinking, how Krsna will eat, how Krsna will grow up. That is why Srimati Radhika cooks for Krsna. As like a mother thinks of her baby day and night. Cooking, everything. So, Srimati Radhika cooks for Krsna. For Krsna’s good health. In human being lila, Durvasa Rsi blessed Srimati Radhika, “Whatever You cook, that will be nectar, and one who eats your cooked prasad, will be very healthy”. Therefore, everyday Srimati Radhika used to go to Nandagaon, from Yavata to Nandagaon to cook for Krsna. Very nicely cooked and sweet. She prepared various type of prasad for Govinda.

There is so much vatsalya-prema, parental mood. The thoughts of how to make Govinda will happy and how to nourish Govinda in ever increasing ways. Always thinking as like a mother.  Hence, Srimati Radhika is thinking day and night how to make Krsna happy and how to nourish Krsna. She is unable tolerate if Krsna falls ill. Just as like if your son has some sickness, illness, you cannot tolerate. Your mind will be restless.

Once in Dvaraka, Krsna performed a pastime, fever lila. His fever was unable to subside. Then the mind of all Dvarakavasis became disturbed, thinking what to do. A doctor advised, “Okay, if anybody gives the foot dust on the head of Krsna, then Krsna’s fever will subside.” Narada Rsi requested from all the residents of Dvarakadish for their footdust but they did not give. So, Narada Rsi went to Vraj, Vrndavan to inform the gopis, especially Srimati Radhika. Srimati Radhika’s was broken hearted and started crying, “Oh, My Krsna is now sick”. Then Srimati Radhika gave Her footdust on the cloth of Narada Rsi, “You take it and put on the head of Krsna”. There is so much vatsalya-prema, parental mood. Day and night thinking how Krsna will be happy ? How Krsna will be free from all kinds of distress ? And She cooks very nice sweet nectar, amrta, for Govinda.

1) Just worship Sri Gaurahari, who is always affectionate toward His devotees. He is the same Supreme Godhead, Krsna, who sported in the cowherd pastures of Vraja and stole the hearts of Nanda and Yasoda.

2) Mother Yasoda calls to Krsna, "My dear Damodara, it is very late. Please come right now, sit down in the dining hall, and take Your lunch."

3) On the direction of Nanda Maharaja, Krsna, the holder of Govardhana Hill, sits down, and then all the cowherd boys, along with Krsna's elder brother, Sri Baladeva, sit down in rows to take their lunch.

4) They are then served a feast of sukta and various kinds of green leafy vegetables, then nice fried things, and a salad made of the green leaves of the jute plant. They are also served pumpkin, baskets of fruit, small square cakes made of lentils and cooked down milk, then thick yogurt, squash cooked in milk, and vegetable preparations made from the tower of the banana tree.

5) Then they receive fried squares of mung dahl patties, and urad dahl patties, capatis, and rice with ghee. Next, sweets made with milk, sugar and sesamum, rice flour cakes; thick cooked-down milk; cakes floating in milk; and sweet rice.

6) There is also sweet rice that tastes just like nectar due to its being mixed with camphor. There are bananas, and cheese which is nectarean and delicious. They are also served twelve kinds of sour preparations made with tamarinds, limes, lemons, oranges, and pomegranates.

7) There are puns made with white flour and sugar; puns filled with cream; laddus; and dahl patties boiled in sugared rice. Krsna eagerly eats all of the food.

8) In great ecstasy and joy Krsna eats the rice, curried vegetables, sweets, and pastries cooked by Srimati Radharani.

9) Krsna's funny brahmana friend Madhumangala, who is very fond of Laddus, gets them by hook or by crook. Eating the laddus he shouts, "Haribol! Haribol!~' and makes a funny sound by swapping his sides under his armpits with his hands.

10) Beholding Radharani and Her gopifriends out of the courters of His eyes, Krsna eats at the house of mother Yasoda with great satisfaction.

11) After lunch, Krsna drinks rose-scented water. Then all of the boys, standing in lines, wash their mouths.

12) After all the cowherd boys wash their hands and mouths, in great bliss they take rest with Lord Balarama.

13) The two cowherd boys Jambula and Rasala then bring Krsna pan made with betel nuts, fancy spices, and catechu. After eating that pin, Sri Krsnacandra then happily goes to sleep.

14) While Krsna happily takes His rest on an excellent bedstead, His servant Visalaksa cools Him with a fan of peacock feathers.

15) At mother Yasoda's request the gopi Dhanistha brings remnants of food left on Krsna's plate to Srimati Radharani, who eats them with great delight

16) Lalita-devi and the other gopis then receive the remnants, and within their hearts they sing the glories of Radharani and Krsna with great joy.

17) Thakura Bhaktivinoda, whose one and only Joy is the pastimes of Lord Hari, sings this Bhoga-arati song
(Song name, Bhaja Bhakata Vatsala. Official Name, Sri Surabhi Kunjer Bhoga Arotik - Arati Kirtan Song 4 by Bhaktivinoda Thakura’s Gitavali)

Rādhikāra pakka anna vividha byañjana, Srimati Radhika makes many kinds of preparations for Krsna, which He partakes this very nice sweet prasada with joy and great ecstasy.

Rādhikāra pakka anna vividha byañjana parama ānande kṛṣṇa korena bhojana chale-bale lāḍḍu khāy śrī-madhumańgala bagala bājāy āra deya hari-bolo - In these verses, Madhu-mangal and Krsna were taking laddu, and makes a funny sound by swapping his sides under his armpits with his hands. They were laughing and joking whilst eating laddu, kachori, and at the same time playing with their armpits making funny noises. Chale-bale lāḍḍu khāy śrī-madhumańgal. Parama anande krsna korena bhajana. Then after taking bhojana, then Danistha devi brought Krsna’s remnants to Srimati Radhika, Who also took a little bit of Krsna’s remnants. In this way the lila was going. These are santa, dasya, sakhya, vatsalya, and madhurya bhavas. Sweetness mood, madhurya-bhava. Sweetness mood is the highest. Even if I tell you, you cannot understand. This kunja-lila is in very confidential places. First They are meeting together, how They have many different kinds of activities.
