There are six types of anisthita bhakti (unsteady bhakti), utsahamayi means having false confidence and being a neophyte devotee. Than ghana-tarala, is that sometimes your bhajana is going up and sometimes your bhajana is going down with you sometimes chanting sixteen rounds, sometimes and sometimes chanting zero rounds.  Then there is vyudha-vikalpa which means the indecision stage; what to do and how to do it.  Will I do it with my wife and children or in the renounced order? Mahaprabhu said:
antare niṣṭhā kara, bāhye loka-vyavahāra
acirāt kṛṣṇa tomāya karibe uddhāra
Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu continued: "Within your heart you should keep yourself very faithful, but externally you may behave like an ordinary man. Thus Kṛṣṇa will soon be very pleased and deliver you from the clutches of māyā".

When I came to Devananda Gaudiya Math, that time Gurudev also gave Harinam to me. This Japa mala [showing his own mala] is the one that Gurudev gave me 30 years ago. Just as I came inside Gurudev´s room, he told me: ‘Where are you from?’, I told him: ‘Krishna-Kripa is my uncle, Krishna-Kripa brahmachari’. Now he is Srila Madhusudan Maharaj from Devananda Gaudiya Math.

Srila Madhusudan Maharaj is my uncle, he is about 75 years old [in September 11, 2012, year of the class]. In the Temple Devananda Gaudiya Math, he was with Srila Bhakti Prajnana Keshava Goswami Maharaja. When he was only 7 or 8 years old he left his house and came to Devananda Gaudiya Math and met Srila Bhakti Prajnana Keshava Goswami Maharaja. And Gurudev has so much love and affection with him.

So when I first met Srila Gurudev Narayana Maharaja that time he gave me Harinam. Sometime I use to go the temple of Srila Bhakti Rakshak Shridhar Goswami Maharaja listen to his Hari Katha. I have so much love and affection with him. He also told me that I could stay in his temple. I told him “I will stay in Devananda Gaudiya Math with Narayana Maharaja and my uncle too”.

Try to understand that without spiritual life, we have nothing more than animal life. The only things that animals such as cats, dogs, birds, and deer do are sleep, eat, defend themselves, and meet each other to reproduce. Human beings also do the same things; these are common between them and the animals. Our scriptures explain very clearly the extreme fortune a person has in coming to Krsna consciousness and practicing unalloyed devotional service.

In the Srimad-Bhagavatam (10.51.53) it is stated:
bhavapavargo bhramato yada bhavej
janasya tarhy acyuta sat-samagamah
sat-sangamo yarhi tadaiva sad-gatau
paravarese tvayi jayate ratih
“If, while wandering in the cycle of repeated birth and death, one attains extreme fortune and is about to be delivered from this material world, one will attain the company of a sadhu, sadhu-sanga.”

We will continue Srimad Bhagavatam, specially the 10th canto (dasha skandha). We discussed yesterday how Krsna chastised the serpent Kaliya. There are many teachings of Kaliya, Dambhanda Lila and Sobari Risi katha. Gurudev again and again remained us about Sobari Risi. He performed hard austerities in the water of Yamuna but he committed offenses at the lotus feet of Vaishnava, Garuda. Due to his offenses he lost all his austerities and lusty desires came into his heart and thus he married princesses of Mandara.

Sukadeva Goswamipad glorified Krsna´s lila when Baladeva and Krsna wondered in the forest, cow herding. Sukadeva Goswamipad wanted to speak about Gopi Katha, but he did not speak because he knew that gopis prema is very confidential so for this reason he hid it in his core of his heart. Now Krsna is in his pre-youth so he called Kishora and gopis are also in their youth.

Krsna is the Supreme Personality of God, Svayam Bhagavan, and He has three aspects: Brahman, effulgence from His body; Paramatma, super soul, who resides in the heart of all the living entities; and the third is called Bhagavan, who has six opulences.
aisvarasya samagrasya viryasya yasasah sriyah
jnana-vairagyayos caiva
sannam bhaga itingana
"The Supreme Personality who possesses all aiswarya or riches, all virya or strength, all yasa or fame, all sri or beauty, all jnana or knowledge and all vairagya or renunciation is called Bhagavan."
(Visnu Purana 6.5.47) 

That who has six opulences, aisvarya, first is opulence, that’s why He is called Bhagavan. The second qualification is virya, He’s very powerful, He controls everybody. Brahma, Siva, Narada, all the high class exalted devotees also pay obeisance unto His lotus feet. The third, sri, His form is very beautiful, that’s called ever fresh beautiful form.

Next, Sukadev Gosvamipad explained Krsna’s-janma-bhandan lila, how Mother Yasoda bound Gopal.

This is a very important topic. Krsna is Bhagavan, who can bind Him? According to the conceptions of the scriptures, sastra sidhanta, He is called Bhagavan, He is called paramatma, He is called brahman, He has three aspects: Brahman, effulgence from His body; Paramatma or super soul because He resides in the hearts of all living entities and third, Bhagavan, who has six opulence’s. For this regard, Satyavrata Muni glorifies this lila, Damodar lila, and we sing:

namamisvaran sac-cid-ananda rupam
lasat-kundalam gokule bhrajamanam
yasoda-bhiyolukhalad dhavamanam

"I worship the Supreme Isvara, Sri Krsna, whose form is sac-cid-ananda, whose fish-shaped earrings swing and play upon His cheeks, who is supremely splendorous in the transcendental dhama of Gokula, who, due to breaking the yogurt pot, is very fearful of Mother Yasoda and jumping down from the wooden grinding mortar quickly runs away, and who, chased by Yasoda, who hastily runs after Him is ultimately caught from behind."

We will discuss Srimad Bhagavatam-katha. We will do this during the course of seven days, specially the 10th canto (dasha skandha). 

Srimad Bhagavatam is non-different from Krsna Himself.  Kali yuga started when Krsna departed from this material world (Krsna svadam upopate).  In this kali-yuga, conditioned souls have unlimited faults (dosa).
kaler dosa-nidhe rajann
asti hy eko mahan gunah
kirtanad eva krsnasya
mukta-sangah param vrajet
"My dear King this age is full of unlimited faults. Indeed, it is just like an ocean of faults (dosa-nidhe), but there is one chance, one opportunity, kirtanad eva krsnaya mukta-sangah param vrajet: simply by chanting Hare Krishna mantra, one can be freed from material bondage and be promoted to the transcendental kingdom."
SB (12.3.51)

Living entities have innumerable faults, so how can they be delivered from this kali-yuga? For this regard, Krishna again manifested himself in this kali yuga in the form of Srimad Bhagavatam. If the living entities listen to Bhagavat-katha they will be delivered from this material world and attain the Lord.  Srimad Bhagavatam is non-different from Krishna and its twelve cantos mean Krishna’s twelve limbs of body.

Srila Gurudev - This is a very high level. You cannot understand. Tarunyamrita that is called after action enter in the youth. Yauvanam. Because gopis are thinking about the stage of their youth. That is called bhakta yauvanam, nava yauvanam and purna yauvanam. 

Bhakta yauvanam means just they give up their restlessness (chanchalata). Do you understand? And now Gopis also grow up and all their ladies activities manifested in their heart.

Kavi Karnapur very nicely explain, when the gopis grow up bayasandi they going to enter bhakta yauvanam. Bhakta yauvanam means that the youth is about to manifest. And at that time they became very silent and mostly they cover they head with the veil. They are not speaking too much. Always silent and absorbed with Krishna. Because this is the nature of the young girl.

When they are young girl at that time they realize "I am girl and they are boys". Also their society is divided in two ways. That means that they are superior. Mother, father and relatives told: “Now you are too young, so should not associate with Krishna.”

The Gopis are always absorbed with Krishna. From their childhood they always associate with Krishna. But now their parents told: “Now you are young and you two should be separate”.

Srila Gurudev tells about his first visit to Navadvip Dham

Srila Gurudev: My uncle Madhusudan Maharaj, from Devananda Gaudiya Math (Krishna Kripa Brahmachari), actually, I hadn't seen him since I was small. He left house when I was 10 or 11 years old. I hadn't seen him. I just had heard his glories, from my mother and other relatives.

When I finished my University, I was thinking “Oh, I have to go to Nawadvip Dham, to take darsan.”

When I first came at that time, I met my uncle. I had not planned in staying in the temple. Nothing was planned. I was just thinking in visit Navadvip Dham. Not to stay in the temple. I just wanted to visit Navadvip Dham.

But when I came at that time, my uncle had so much love and affection with me, then I also stayed with the devotees who were there. At that time, when I came there, there were no sanyassis in Brahma Gaudiya Math. They mostly went out for preaching. Even Srila Vamana Goswami Maharaja was not there. He was in somewhere preaching. There was no sanyassi there, only brahmacharis.

One most senior brahmachari gave us class about Brihad Bhagavatamritam.

At that time I knew that I could not understand everything. What is their philosophy, what are they speaking. Just I give attention. But at that time I was not satisfied with brahmachari´s Hari katha. I was not satisfied. Then one devotee told me “Ok, (there is a) very elevated vaisnav, (who) is disciple of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupad”. Then he (devotee) came with me and we went (there).

In first, I met Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Goswami Maharaja and, at that time, he was very sick. When I met with him, at that time, I saw only a few western devotees, who surrounded him.

Today is the second day of seven days of Srimad Bhagavatam katha. Yesterday I also discussed about Krsna´s Damodar (Dambhanda) lila, how mother Yasoda binded Krsna with a small rope which she binds her hair with.
In this way Krsna performed sweet lilas in Vraj.

Satyavratya Muni, explains in this way how Krsna gave pleasure to all the residents of Vraj, the Vrajvasis.

sva-ghosam nimajjantam akhyapayantam
tadiyesita-jnesu bhaktair jitatvam
punah prematas tam satavrtti vande
“By childhood pastimes such as this, He perpetually immerse the inhabitants of Gokula in pools of pure bliss, and through them informs the devotees desirous of knowing His aspect of supreme opulence and majesty that He is conquered only by those who are free from knowledge of His aisvarya with great love I again and again worship that Damodara Sri Krsna.”

Satavrtti means “again and again he bowed (prostrat) down his forehead and remembered many kinds of Krsna´s sweet lilas”.

FROM HATHA TO BHAKTI YOGA

I am very happy to come in to this yoga center. We are here simply to discuss about yoga.
Yoga is actually a Sanskrit word, this is not English or Portuguese or another language, actually this word is Sanskrit.
Yoga means “connection”. As in a flight connection. If you want to go to Sao Paulo (a city in Brazil) maybe you can not get a direct flight, so you get one flight to Belo Horizonte (another Brazilian city) and then you get a flight connection, another flight to Sao Paulo: that means “connection”.

Connection means that there are two things that you want to connect. In the same way yoga means connection, to connect, the connection of soul and Supersoul.

So in this way in the scriptures there many kinds of yogas. In Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Krsna says to Arjuna about 18 yogas.

Have you ever heard about the Gita? In Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Krsna says to Arjuna some instructions that are called Gita Upanisads.

AN OFFERING TO SRILA PARAM GURUDEV

In this auspicious day – the appearance day of Srila Param Gurudev Śrī Śrīmad Bhaktivedānta Vāman Gosvāmī Mahārāj and the disappearance day of Srila Param Gurudev Śrī Śrīmad Bhaktivedānta Nārāyaṇ Gosvāmī Mahārāj – our dearmost Srila Gurudev wants to share with all his disciples this wonderful offering to Srila Param Gurudev BV Narayan Gosvami Maharaj:


Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami-Vandana

nama om visnu-padaya radhikayiai priyatmane
sri-srimad-bhaktivedanta-narayana iti namine
I offer pranama to om visnupada Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja who is very dear to Srimati Radhika.

Perfect guru-puja means to glorify the guru’s life history and to follow his instructions. I have heard some things from Sripada BV Vana Maharaja that I would like to repeat.

If I worship with flowers, fruit and a ghee-lamp, but do not follow his instructions, this is called a joke. If I have no faith in guru’s instructions, there will not be any progress on the path of devotion, or bhakti.

A disciple should give respect to guru as like the Lord. One must give up his own desires and conceptions and surrender to his guru, and try to help his guru. One must try to fulfill the desires of his or her guru and understand his heart.

Guru is non different from the Lord. Guru has none of the 4 faults that a conditioned soul has –
(bhrama -mistake; pramāda -illusion; vipralipsā -cheating purposes; karaṇa-apāṭava - inefficiency of the material senses)

The material defects of mistakes, illusions, cheating and sensory inefficiency do not exist in the words of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Therefore, a conditioned soul cannot speak perfect truth. Gurudeva and Bhāgavata-tattva are beyond all these defects.
dharmaḥ projjhita-kaitavo ’tra paramo nirmatsarāṇāṁ satāṁ
 vedyaṁ vāstavam atra vastu śivadaṁ tāpa-trayonmūlanam
śrīmad-bhāgavate mahā-muni-kṛte kiṁ vā parair īśvaraḥ
 sadyo hṛdy avarudhyate ’tra kṛtibhiḥ śuśrūṣubhis tat-kṣaṇāt
(dharmaḥ - religiosity; projjhita - completely rejected; kaitavaḥ - covered by fruitive intention)

Completely rejecting all religious activities, which are materially motivated, this Bhāgavata Purāṇa propounds the highest truth, which is understandable by those devotees who are fully pure in heart.
(SB_01.01.02)

If we want the mercy of gurudeva we have to serve him without duplicity and any type of gain. Service is not what we want to do, but what gurudeva desires. Disciple means to help with his preaching. A disciple should have a humble and submissive mood.

Anugatya – follow the guru’s instructions and mood, then there will be success, otherwise the service is tainted with selfishness, and material gain, which leads to an incorrect mood that gurudeva is the disciple’s servant. Bhakti means seva. One who is free from all material designations, whose heart is not contaminated with jnana, karma, yoga and tapasya, lust and anger, can serve guru.

Guru seva, guru nistha, guru bhakti are the backbone of spiritual life. All anarthas have to be removed by the guru’s mercy. We cannot remove anarthas by our self; guru has a method of removing anarthas in every jiva’s heart. When anarthas are removed, or partially removed, the disciple can come to the platform of suddha-sattva – where there is no lust, anger, jealousy, or desire for pratistha (name and fame). Our heart must be like crystal, being able to reflect everything. Then we can serve gurudeva. Try to understand the guru’s heart and please him; that is called bhakti.

If you want to serve gurudeva in any way, you need to have tolerance.

If you have some pride that you are of a high class caste or race, very wealthy, very beautiful, or have vast amounts of knowledge, then bhakti will not come.

Be prepared to be like a clay pot. There is a nice story about a clay pot, which always stays in the temple. The clay pot in the temple has Ganga water inside, and always stays close to the lotus feet of the Lord.

How did the clay pot get this service of staying close to the lotus feet of the Lord in the temple?
The clay pot narrates his story like this:

"Once I was mud, and one day a pot-maker came and took me from the bank of a river. Then the pot-maker put me in the hot sun. When I was completely dried from the sun, the pot-maker took a stick and beat me until I became dust. Then he took one silk cloth and strained all the rocks and other debris. The potter than had nice soft dust, and added water, then beat me by punching and kicking me. I was then ready to be put on the middle of the potter’s wheel.

He made different shapes out of me, and then put me in the rays of the hot sun at a temperature of 101 degrees for 7 days until I was dry. Then he put me in an oven for 3 days at a very hot temperature at 401 degrees, and I was completely red.

He took me to the market. Many people were coming and checking me by pulling my ear and beating me. If you want to buy a clay pot, you always check that pot by holding it up and beating with a stick; so many people came to beat me, but I had to tolerate this.

Then one-day gurudeva came to the market, he also took my ear and beat me to see if I had any cracks. Gurudeva then put me under the water to see if I had any holes. I had no cracks or holes so gurudeva brought me to his temple. Now I have to tolerate everything."

The sun, fire and water are substances for purification, but the best purification is by mantra. Gurudeva is your ever well wisher, and it is his duty to chastise and you have to tolerate.

HOW TO DEVELOP OUR SADHANA AND BHAJANA

"I want to speak about how we can develop our sadhana and bhajana. Srila Rupa Gosvamipada quoted one unprecedented verse in his book, Bhakti Rasamrta Sindu:

adau sraddha tatah sadhu sango ‘tha bhajana-kriya
tato ‘nartha-nivrttih syat tato nistha rucis tatah
athasaktis tato bhavas tatah premabhyudancati
sadhakanam ayam premnah pradurbhave bhavet kramah
                                         ( RS 1.4.15/CC 2.3.14-15)

In the beginning there is sraddha (born from past contact with devotees) in the form of faith in the words of sadhu and sastra. Upon its appearance, one acquires eligibility for sadhu-sanga, and then bhajana-krya (activities of devotion which begin with taking shelter of Guru, receiving initiation from him, etc). Anartha-nivrtti (eradication of contamination in the form of unwanted desires in the heart) also begins at this time, and thereafter nistha, steadiness arises in bhajana. This is followed by ruci (taste for Radha-Krsna nama, guna, rupa ,lila), and then asakti (deep attachment) arises for both the process of bhajana and the object of bhajana, Sri Krsna. When this stage ripens it is transformed into the state of bhava, and there after prema arises. This is how prema gradually manifests in the heart of the sadhaka.

This is the sequence of our bhajana and sadhana.

THE GLORIES OF SRIMATI RADHIKA

It is very close to Radhastami, the appearance day of Srimati Radhika, so I want to speak and glorify Srimati Radhika and speak about the manner how Srimati Radhika became manifested in this material world. We know Sri Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Svayam Bhagavan. He manifested many of His incarnations’ (avatara) Rama, Krsna...etc.
Krsna has immense potencies, of which three are prinicipal: the internal, the external and the marginal potencies. In the internal potency there are three divisions: samvit, hladini and sandhini. The sandhini portion of sri Krsna’s internal potency has manifested the all attractive form of sri Krsna, and the same internal potency, in the hladini feature, has presented Srimati  Radharani, who is the attraction for the all attractive. Gopis , Laxmi devi and the queens of  Dvaraka are  manifested from Srimati Radhika.

Today is a very auspicious day, because tomorrow originally we will celebrate the Ratha Yatra in Jagannath-puri. So a day before Jagannath Ratha Yatra in Jagannath-puri they also cleaned the temple of Gundica.

I told you that Indradyumna Maharaj actually manifested this vigraha of Jagannath, Baladev, and Subhadra. So, Jagannath, Baladev, Subadra always staying in Jagannath temple.

Once a year Lord Jagannath He comes out and He goes from Jagannath temple to Gundica temple. That is called Sundarachal. And this temple name is called Gundica, means the queen of Indradyumna Maharaj. Indradyumna Maharaj, he built this temple for the rememberance of his queen Gundica devi. And Lord only once a year comes out and goes to Gundica Devi temple, and He lives there for nine days.

After nine days again Lord Jagannath returns back to Jagannath temple. So that means that only for nine days that temple worships Lord Jagannath, and in the whole year it is completely empty; no one living, nothing.

(…) He is called the eternal associate of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. So very carefully you should understand who is a Vaisnav, who is a sadhu. These things. If you don’t believe, and you are shedding tears, a maha bagavat will tell you: “Don’t do this.” It is cheating activities, not bhajan and sadhan. How much is he chanting the Holy Names, what is he doing? Enter in this deep philosophy, chant the Holy Names:

So now, coming in this way, Srila Gaur Kisor Das Babaji Maharaj, He performed bhajan and sadhan in the toilet. Someone ask: “Babaji Maharaj, why are you doing bhajan and sadhan in the toilet?” Babaji Maharaj told: “It is better to take the smell of the toilet, than the smell of bhisaya, because bhisaya means enjoy.” They ask: “Babaji Maharaj, this is my problem, many problems.” Especially indian people, they ask the sadhus: “Maharaj, give blessing, I have no son, you please give me an wife, wealth, money.” They don’t want to take from the sadhu Krsna-bhakti. They ask the sadhus just material things. For this regard Srila Gaur Kisor Das Babaji Maharaj told: “I prefer to do bhajan and sadhan in the toilet.” He perform bhajan and sadhan for three days, He closed the door of the toilet. A bad smell was coming. Then the police inspector came and knocked the door: “Babaji Maharaj, please, come out the toilet, otherwise you will die. We have to clean this toilet also”. And Babaji Maharaj told: “I can’t open. I am sick.” And he was chanting the Holy Names:

This police inspector again knocked the door: “Babaji Maharaj, please, come out. Otherwise you will become sick and this bad smell is coming from the toilet!... Please, come out.” But Srila Babaji Maharaj again answered: “I am sick, I cannot open the door.” And at that time Vinod Bihari Brahmacari, Srila Kesav Gosvami Maharaj, came and knocked the door: “Babaji Maharaj, Babaji Maharaj, please, open the door!” Then again Srila Gaur Kisor Das Babaji Maharaj said: “I can’t open, I am sick.” Then Vinod Bihari Brahmacari told: “Babaji Maharaj, we have come from Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupad. He sent us to meet with you. Take darsan of you.” When Srila Gaur Kisor Das Babaji Maharaj heard the name of Bhaktivedanta Prabhupad, He opened the door: “Ooooh, you have come from Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati??” Then He met with them and gave blessing to Vinod Bihari Brahmacari. ADHIKARIS (PLATFORMS) OF A DEVOTEE

Devotee: There is uttama adhikari (devotee), madhyama adhikari and kanistha adhikari... Under or below kanistha adikary, is there also one level of devotee?

Srila Gurudev: Devotees are of three categories in our vaisnava philosophy: kanistha, madhyama and uttama adhikari. Kanistha... Also three types of kanistha: kanistha-kanistha, kanistha-madhyama and kanistha-uttama... Madhyama-kanista, madhyama-madhyama and madhyama-uttama. Uttama, also three types: uttama-kanistha, uttama-madhyama and uttama-uttama.

Kanistha Adhikari, that's called neophyte devotees, three categories, now coming:

- Kanistha-kanistha means just received Harinam, and maybe diksa... But his faith is not strong. But he follows the four principles... Sometimes he chants the holy names, maybe not in a proper way... Thas is called kanistha-kanistha vaisnava, very neophyte devotee. But he follows the four principles. So... He is called Kanistha-Kanistha.

- Kanistha-madhyama, he's associating with sadhu and listening to harikatha... He follows the four principles, and he's doing bhajan and sadhan... And, little bit some, also, (he has) sastra knowledge... Not so much. That is called kanistha madhyama... Understand?

- Kanistha-uttama, he has some sastra knowledge... Not too much... This is true... But shraddha (faith), (he has) more than others: kanistha-kanistha and kanistha-madhyama... So, he comes in the stage of nistha... Sraddha, Sadhusanga, Bhajana kriya, Anartha nvritti, nistha... The Kanistha-uttama comes in the stage of nistha... Understand? Steadiness comes...

THE BRICKS ARE CHANTING

"In our Kesavji Gaudiya Math, all the bricks in the wall are chanting: Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.

Why? Because Gurudev Srila Narayan Gosvami Marahaja performed bhajan and sadhan in His room for sixty years there, in Kesavji Gaudiya Math.

That’s why I am saying that Kesavji Gaudiya Math is not an ordinary place. You can have faith or not, but I am saying that this is perfect. If you go to the bhajan kutir of Srila Gurudev in Kesavji Gaudiya Math you will see.

For sixty years, not for one day, He performed bhajan and sadhan and chanted the holy names there. I saw, everyday at three o'clock or three thirty, Gurudev woke up and chanted the holy names: Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.

Sometimes I also inspired the devotees: "Why are you going to Vṛndavan? Go to Mathura's temple, Mathura's math where Gurudev performed bhajan and sadhan. That’s called a Maha Tirtha”.

When you sit in Gurudev’s bhajan kutir, you understand. If you are a little bit free from anarthas, anartha mukta, then you realize if the sound is coming or not. I honestly tell you.

If you go to Gurudev’s bhajan kutir, that sound will come from the bricks, one by one. Because Gurudev's transcendental sound is there.

You'll realize if you are a little bit anartha mukta. But If you are full of stupid nonsense anarthas, I cannot say anything. This is true, very powerful.

In the same way, Haridas Thakur performed bhajan and sadhan in one place and is called Maha Tirtha. People are running here and there. Why don’t you run and come to Gurudev's bhajan kutir, Maha Tirtha? Sit there and your realization will come. A hundred percent guaranteed.

If a mahabhagavat performed bhajan in one place, that place is called Maha tirtha. If you go to Gambira and sit there, so much inspiration will come to your heart about Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Gaursundar. Because Gaursundar for continuous eighteen years was in Jagannath Puri. Six years He was travelling.  For sixteen years Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu performed bhajan and sadhan in Gambira. So if you go there, you can realize yourself.

I’m not speaking too much. But this is the truth. If you go to Jagannath Puri and sit in Gambira, where Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu was, so much inspiration automatically will come. In the same way, where Srila Gurudev performed bhajan and sadhan is called siddha-bhumi."

HUMAN LIFE

There are five types of human beings. Nitisundar or those who do not follow any rule or regulation. The "so-called" human beings, one can say: "so-called" human beings. One cannot say that last night he accepted diksa (second initiation) and then became a human being. They are not human beings. It is stated in this way, but their activities are not as humans. How can you tell that they are human beings, is not it?

Manav deho means that the human body is dual. Some people do bhajan and sadhan (spiritual practice) and others do not. You can call those who do not the "so-called" human beings. All its activities are like animals: eating, sleeping, defending and mating. The shastras (scriptures) say they are called humans, but their activities are like animals. Animals also eat. Cows and dogs eat and mate. What is the difference, then?

We say that we are manav, humans. What does it mean? Follow the four principles and chanting the holy names. Without it, how to say that this is a human being?

Thus, Bhaktivinoda Thakur also explains that there are five categories of human beings: nitisundar, nitipradar, etc.

Someday, by their own mouths, they will accept it. But they are not doing it now. The perfect man is he who does bhajan and sadhan and reaches a high state. Understand?

Devotee: Kanistha adhikari (novice devotee) is the one who has no faith and do not see the Lord everywhere, as you said. But he still commits sinful activities sometimes?

Srila Gurudeva: No, kanistha adhikari does not commit any sinful activity. Sometimes he does not know the proper respect to other Vaishnavas (devotees). And he does not have much knowledge of the sastras, sastra jnani. That's it. Understand? Kanistha adhikari means this. Sinful activities are for karmis (sense enjoyers). Jnanis (impersonalist philosophers) do not commit sinful activities either. Sinful activities only karmis commit, papa-karma (evil deeds).

Devotee: Even if sometimes he (the devotee) is breaking the four regulative principles or if sometimes he worships the deity and sometimes not?

Srila Gurudeva: Sometimes he has faith, sometimes not. But he can continue worshiping the deity such as the vigraha of Sacinandan.

Devotee: I asked this because sometimes Mahaprabhu is there at the altar...

Srila Gurudeva: Worship Thakurji (deity) is very beautiful...

Devotee: And sometimes you have more faith and sometimes less, you sing and accumulate sukrti (pious spiritual activity)...

Srila Gurudeva: Yes, some sukrti comes, of course. My Gurudev said: for one life only, follow the four principles and chant the holy names. That's enough for you. That's enough for you. Sing the holy names and follow the four principles. Understand? That's enough. Then, in the next birth, you will develop more and more. From kanistha to madhyam (devotee in intermediate level) and then to uttam (advanced devotee). This is very important.

Devotee: But what if the kanistha knows about the transcendental and neglect it?

Srila Gurudeva: He neglects because he has no faith. It all depends. If he has a weak faith, so he neglects. There are no sinful activities in this case. He neglects, but sometimes do puja (worship at the altar). This is because he has some faith. He is not committing sinful activities. How is this possible? He is superior to karmis and also to jnanis. Karmis commit sinful and pious activities and jnanis, nor sinful activities. A devotee is superior to karmis and jnanis, so how can he commit sinful activities? There are no sinful activities there.

Devotee: To receive the diksa mantra is necessary paramatki-sradha (firm faith)? For the Lord is everywhere and sees everything..

Srila Gurudeva: Yes. The feeling does not appear, but he has faith. The feeling comes only in madhyam, uttam and uttam-uttam platforms.

Devotee: So kanistha adhikari is qualified to accept diksa?

Srila Gurudeva: Yes, he should take diksa and then develops little by little. This is called adustani-diksa, formality diksa. Then he again hears hari-katha (topics about Krishna), chanting the holy names and do bhajan and sadhan. So, paramatki-diksa comes. One do note becomes a Vaishnava in one day. It is step by step. Understand?

JIVA GOSVAMI - GURU IS VAISNAV AND VAISNAV IS GURU

Nowadays, there are appearance and disappearance days of Srila Jiva Goswamipad, who is prominent amongst the six Goswamis. I wish to discuss his life history and his compromission. Vaishnave... (inaudible). If we glorify Vaishnav then we will be protected from maya (illusory energy). And our six Goswamis - Sri Rupa, Sanatan, Bhatta Raghunatha, Sri Jiva, Gopala Bhatta, Dasa Raghunatha – they are called the six Goswamis. They also fulfilled all the desires of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu‘s nitya-parikar (eternal associates), Srila Rupa Goswamipad, Sanatana Goswamipad, and also Srila Jiva Goswamipad.

Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu went to Jagannath Puri and Vrndavan. On the way, Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu picked up two great personages, Rupa and Sanatan in Ramkeli, Bengal.

Rupa-Sanatan performed bhajan and sadhan along with their brother, Vallabha, who is the father of Jiva Goswamipad. Lord Chaitnaya Mahaprabhu affecionately called Vallabha as Anupama. At that time, Jiva Goswamipad was about six or seven years old. Whilst performing bhajan and sadhan, Anupama was absorbed in Lord Ramacandra. Anupama was advised by their brothers, Rupa and Sanatana that he should perform bhajan and sadhan to Krsna because Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Whereas, Ramacandra is an incarnaion. Therefore, Anupama should perform bhajan and sadhan to Krsna, advised Rupa-Sanatan.

According to the scriptures, there is no difference between Rama and Krsna. However, in rasa-siddhanta, there are some speciality of Krsna.

Today is the fourth day of the Srimad Bhagavat Saptah.

After the Govardhana dharan-lila, Sukadeva Gosvamipada told so many sweet lilas about Krsna.

He spoke about Krsna’s topmost lila, rasa-lila-katha. Because this lila (rasa lila) is super excellent and the topmost.

Krsna told the gopis: “I will fulfill all your desires”, when He stole their clothes, in a lila called vastra-haran-lila because the gopis performed hard austerities, calledkatyayani-vrata. At that time, Krsna was six years old.

(verse) Katyayani maha-maye maha yogini adhisvari nanda-gopa-sutam devi patim me kuru te namah (Srimad Bhagavatam 10.22.4)

“He Katyayani, he maha-maya, yoga-maya, give us blessings so that the son of Nanda Maharaj will become our beloved”.


Nitya-siddha-gopis (eternally perfect gopis) like Radha, Lalita, Vishaka, Rupa Manjari did not perform katyayani-vrata. Only sadhana-siddha-gopis (gopis who attained perfection by practicing sadhana bhakti), some sadhana-siddha gopis, muni-cari, sruti-cari, observed katyayani-vrata.

Today is the third day of Sri Bhagavad Saptah katha. In the morning, we had discussed Venu-gita (the song of Krsna’s Flute) on how the Gopis (milkmaids or damsels of Vraja) were completely enchanted by the sound vibration of the flute of Govinda.

Vrajendra Nandana Syamasundara Krsna has four super-excellent qualities:
- Rupa Madhurya (sweetness of the of His beauty)
- Lila Madhurya (His sweet wonderful pastimes)
- Prema Madhurya (His wonderful associates like the damsels of Vraja, who are very near and dear to Him)
- Venu Madhurya (sweetness of the sound vibration of His flute).

Krsna's flute, Venu is very powerful. It awakens the feeling of love in the heart of the living entities with an intense desire to meet Him. Especially, when Krsna returns after cow herding in Vrndavan, everybody´s heart was completely enchanted when He plays His flute.
